Again as @Shimmy wants to step back thought I'd set up this weeks race thread while I had some spare time. Thank you Shimmy for doing this previously!

Jeddah
When was the track built?

The Jeddah Corniche Circuit is, you won’t be surprised to hear, a temporary street circuit (albeit adorned with some permanent sections), located on the Corniche – a 30km coastal resort area of the ancient Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah. Designed by the Tilke company, in conjunction with Formula 1’s own Motorsports team – who used Google Earth for their initial investigations into potential layouts – F1’s Ross Brawn said of the track: “What we want to see is a race circuit. We don’t want Mickey Mouse circuits. We don’t want those old classic street circuits with 90 degree turns. We want fast sweeping circuits, circuits which are going to challenge the drivers – and they are going to love it.”

Aye, whoever is about will do it when the race finishes.

Just realised that "Thank you Snookums" sounds like something someone would say to their wife :D

Awesome.

Don't. It was the name of my first ever Wow character and that along with The Evil Ginge have always been my go to online names. Really should stop using Snookums at this point :D

Hopefully they police the speed delta in quali a bit better than they did last year.

Seeing some cars crawling at 20kph whilst someone was on a hot lap was scary from my armchair.

Max's driving was disgusting at this race last year on many counts. Let's hope we don't see a repeat of that as it seemed an exciting track. (copy and paste this statement into half of the F1 threads this year ;) )

Have they made any safety tweaks here? While the track is entertaining, the potential for a serious wreck feels higher than it should considering the rapid and unsighted sections.

Max is a GOAT, let's hope for a Repeat, hope to see more Hamilton and Totie tears mix it up and sip that martini

Double RB retirement and Karen Horner tears are what I want

Can we leave this kind of rubbish until some drama occurs in the race? We are not even 15 posts in, and people already showing their classy true colours

thank you. I did post in the general thread about people just leaving this petty **** behind but looks like mod step in is going to be needed sadly.

yeah it was also a bit bum clench sometimes practice and quali

Surely being ground effect cars these will end going air born with bigger incidents. Again that would be another thing a sim would really be able to replicate similar to proposing would it not?

Well my 6 retirements due to technical faults was only 50% correct for last race, this race I am predicting 4 for technical and 3 due to bad driving/crashes, for a total of 7. Ferrari are going to clash with RB at least once, resulting in a penalty for one of the drivers of 5s. Putting my crystal ball away now. :p

Not looking good for McLaren, from reading and watching some 'stuff' they don't expect to make any inroads for months, I thought they were doing great last season, it is a shame to see them at the back.

Thankfully, yes.

It has been confirmed that some minor tweaks will be made to the circuit to help improve driver sight lines from the cockpit by improving visibility in several of the circuit's corners including Turns 2, 3, 14 and 21 where the barriers will be moved back between 1.5m and 2m.

Likewise, the barrier on the right-hand side of Turn 27 will be moved back by around 1.5m to widen the track at this point. In all cases except Turn 27, the track limit/edge will remain the same.

In addition, further modifications will also be made to Turns 4, 16, 22 and 24 after consultation with the drivers who requested a smoother barrier on the apex so that they can potentially brush it as they pass.

So given that Red Bull engines seem to have an issue with the fuel pumps failing and that:

A: Its a FIA spec part, so they cant fix the issue with that directly.
B: Fuels are homologated, so they can't change that.

What can they do? If it is vapour lock, carry a whole load of extra fuel around for the race seems like an option, but not an efficient one?

I forgot how much of a cluster**** last year's race was, what with yellow (then red) flags, free pit stops for some, Masi's "offer" for RBR and really the whole race just showing how low MV and RBR would stoop. That aside, as mentioned above the circuit itself is terrifying. I'm not a fan at all. It seems made for drama and crashes and I don't approve of that at all. Get rid, I say.
