Think the softs will be the starting tyre of choice for the whole season based upon mclarens awful first laps last week.

McLaren didn't have particularly awful first stint pace compared to their general lack of pace. Their problem was that they got blocked by Ocon playing spinning tops with Mick. Meanwhile, with a safety car looking likely, going for a longer stint could pay off.

Totally forgot some of that race! I think because Abu Dhabi happened so soon after!
Yeah, indeed...

They seem pretty confident of fixing their problems. On the one hand, they would say that, wouldn't they? But these debriefs have generally been quite open in the past so maybe they're onto something.
I'm probably being hopeful here but it's a good sign that they seemed to know exactly where they were for the first race (didn't they basically say they would be fighting for 5/6th which they would have been without RB's retirements?). Makes me think (hope!) they know exactly what needs fixing and how to do it. I'd love it if they came back and were challenging RB and Ferrari this weekend.

I'd be astonished if they could turn it round so quickly, but I'd be very happy if they could bring the car up to close to RB/Ferrari in the next 3 or 4 races. It'd be great to have a three way (or more) battle for the lead.
Yeah, just need to stay in touch at this stage. Car looks to be near the front so not impossible to catch up.
I suspect McLaren and Aston will make good progress, not so sure about williams but here's hoping.

Yeah good point, also the tyre warmers are cooler so anything other than the softs will take an age to warm up.

The hards could be a good option to put on in the event of a safety car though, give you more time to get them up to operating temps before the race starts again.

That's a big gap considering one is on softs and the other hards. Mercedes bouncing looks reduced on the straights but still in the corners.

They've really got their work cut out
