I'm confused I'm sure I saw Lewis beat George by a second in qualifying 7 days ago, I didn't see anyone saying George was average then.....;)

Almost like sometimes people have a bad day at the office....

I read on the bbc website earlier that Hamilton said he’d gone the wrong way on setup. I guess he was trying something different and it failed?

I agree its a bit early too see where Lewis and George are at so lets see mid season..

Also doesn't Lewis have the other side of the garage now (the old bottas side) so they might not be as good at setting up the car? I don't know..

I think people are jumping on you @Locky because you are so binary.

Lewis has one bad quali since 2009 and he’s finished.

Look at his F1 thread posting history, he's either got the most reactionary opinions ever or he's on the wind up most of the time :p

I thought you were a British driver and Lewis fan? How come you'd say this about him during the 2021 build up if that was the case?

I think this was a silly BLM stuff without searching. I still want Lewis to win over the other none British drivers but hes at the bottom of the list in that order..

LOL! We’ll just ignore the rest of Hamilton’s racing career and boil it down to the last two races yeah? Nice one…

No , i’ll judge it with a real team mate that can drive and a competitive field for him to race against. Something he has not had since 2008 when he was a worthy F1 winner, the other 6 titles I’m calling gifted to him.

Mercedes total dominance of the hybrid era has now come to an end. Make what you want of it .

Anyhow I’ll predict a a Ferrari 1 , 2 tomorrow with Max 3rd.

You are also forgetting how vocal I was when Lewis was robbed of his 8th title. If I was such a hater - I wouldn't have been..

With the exception of Kovalainen & Bottas (sort of) all of his teammates have been very strong. I know people like to **** on Rosberg but the guy had a very successful junior career which clearly shows he can drive, and he was always fast in the Williams when he started in F1. He also beat MSC convincingly, albeit a slightly over the hill version. I don't think many drivers on the current grid could beat him over a season. Then there's Button and especially Alonso who don't need any qualifying statements as to their skills.

What other recent driver has had such consistently strong teammates as Lewis and beaten them all over their time together?

Also you keep claiming it's 'all the car' but now you're saying he was a worthy winner in 2008, so which is it? His skills haven't suddenly degraded from worthy WDC winner to fraud. I think most rational people have the opposite opinion which is that he's improved a lot over the years.

The fact is that the best drivers tend to find their way into the best cars, and F1 is 90% car 10% driver.

90/10 isn't even close. Typically the best and worst teams are about 2.0s apart, whilst the biggest gaps between teammates are about 0.6s. That alone implies about a 23/77 split, but it's an under-estimate of the difference between drivers because the different between teams is swollen by the fact that the best drivers get to the best teams, while the gaps between teammates are shrunk by the same. On top of that you have the massive filter on the drivers who are even good enough to make it to the grid. F1 is about 40/60 driver/car, but it only manages that because it skims the cream off the top of the best drivers in the world. Even utter potato Mazepin from last season was good enough to win races in F2; something that puts him among an elite few worldwide.

Yeah sure, I tend to agree actually - Although I think when most people quote stats like that they don't account for comparisons to drivers outside of F1. I just went for 90/10 for indicative purposes.

Just reading back through the thread to catch up on whats been said since the end of Q3... JESUS!!!
What is it with F1 threads that turns people into such obtuse idiots! Why do people turn so weird? Its so bloody cringe and unbearably toxic!

Mick will miss the GP tomorrow

I hope he's okay and makes a swift recovery.

Yeah I'm not surprised after that, sensible decision, although one that likely got made for him by the medics.
Would they have even been able to build a car for him? The majority of that car was likely written off, probably incl the chassis
