I'm getting married next year, and I have decided to take this opportunity to get myself a nice suit. I've got a couple of nice suits, but nothing close to bespoke. Which has led me to think I should go treat myself down at Saville Row. I thought I would ask first, whether anyone here has ever had a suit created for them on Saville Row? If so, what did you think? Were you impressed? Which shop did you use? What sort of price did you end up paying?

I know there are a lot of GREAT suits at a fraction of the price, but I've been given the green light from the misses, so therefore, I figured why not treat myself this once!

I have not had a Saville Row suit made for me however I have had a couple of expensive suits made and I have never been that impressed.

I found that buying a really good off the shelf suit and then getting that tailored to fit woke out much better.

I have a Huntsman suit that is just fantastic. They also give you adjustments for life with a suit from them. Was about 900 quid, but that was years ago so don't know what current pricing is like. Fantastic service too.

I would avoid the Row it attracts a lot of scene tax there are plenty of exceptional tailors that don't trade on that particular street.

Try google to find a good independent one near you and go see the quality of any suits they have in stock. Independent tailors are usually some of the best.

This I agree with, I've had some suits that fitted so damn well off the shelf that there was little point paying for a fully tailored one that would end up disappointing. Minor adjustments to a high quality suit that already fits well is likely to yield equally good results for a fraction of the price.

Plus shouldn't you be wearing a morning suit for your wedding? :p

But a 100% tailored shirt is the way to go, 60 to 70 quid will get you a fantastic hand made shirt and it will fit like a glove. I never buy off the shelf shirts anymore

As Robbie_G says I have always felt a little let down by completely bespoke suits that I have had made for me costing around £800. However I love my CK suit which only cost me £300 pounds plus £70 quid to get it fitted. Same with my boss suit which was around 400 in the sales.

I think there is just a lot of snobbery around bespoke suits.

the only reason i would not use Savile row would be the prices. by the very nature of being on that street, they have to charge higher prices to cover rents / rates etc.

i use a tailor from Yorkshire (ex Savile Row) who is very good. i can pay monthly £100 per month (or whatever you want) and get a suit made whenever i want. he comes to London every 2 / 3 weeks.

costs me about £600 (cloth depending) for suit with 2 pairs of trousers.

I paid slightly north of that for the same whilst buying my last suit from Saville Row recently.

If the OP's lucky there may still be the odd January Sale on as well!

I bet you get some terrible Saville Row tailors too. Don't assume they'll all do a great job, must be some cowboys trading off the name.

not so sure. they simply wont last without repeat business given the rents they need to pay. agreed some will be better than others but they should all be decent at worst.

Out of interest, where do you get your shirts tailored? I'm lucky as a slim fit shirt fits me like a glove, but I'd be interested to explore the tailored option. At 60 quid or so, it seems like a no brainer as well.

Macy's downtown chicago, there is an old guy that works there called Hosay, it takes about a week but he does a fanatic job. I travel to Chicago a lot so I just pick it up on my next trip. I use him to do my suits.

There is also a guy in Prague that I use for shirts, but he is too expensive and I will not got to them anymore after they charged me £12 to iron my shirt (I had a meeting and no time to go home).

I sometimes get shirts form this guy in Phuket. They are very good but not cheap at around £50 to £60 pounds which is a lot for Thailand.

I have also used some independent tailors but I don't remember the info but I can try and dig it up.

I just buy slim fit or fully fitted, never had a shirt tailored as they're under suits when they matter most anyway.

True, however 90% of the time I'll take my suit jacket off in meetings and it's nice to wear a decent shirt and trousers/smart jeans casually at work.

This is a fallacy but I won't get all spergy about it. I suppose it's true if you never take your suit jacket off but ... wait, you do take your jacket off at work don't you?
