Saving Sessions / Demand reduction thread

I was at 8kW export, then I saw 5.6kW house load, wife's come home put the washing on and the kettle, not bothered about the kettle but the washing can wait - she'd forgotten

Anyway exported about 7.4kWh.

Poor house management Ron

15:12 message to mine

“Saving session 16:30 to 17:30. So if any heavy electric usage. Can you do now or after please? X”

Haha, I sent the same message to my wife! All for a couple of quid but all counts.

Probably did around 4.5kw as kids had devices on etc

No, its called a forgetful wife, I messaged both my wife and daughter at 13:13, when she got home from work she forgot and put the washing on :( which was then paused when I asked what the heavy load was, normal service was then resumed with 8 kW exporting.

Probably should have texted later, but then I'd forget to do that.

Mine was looking after two sick kids so I daren't even send the text

I'll be exporting later in the evening anyway, so I may as well have the teeny weeny little extra bit.

12p... scraping the bottom of the barrel now.

I'll be exporting in the evening anyway, so might as well do it earlier. We'll still be cooking at 6pm though so won't be putting in any extra effort.

I’ve opted in but I’m not planning to export anything.

I suspect my baseline will be zero or close to so I don’t expect any payment.

Out of interest, why opt in?

I feel like opting in shows some degree of willingness to accept it even if you don't do much in reality.

By usually opting but not when the price is low I think it sends a clearer message.

Because my baseline may be >0 as I regularly run out of battery by this time of the day on days with heavy cloud cover or its chilly.

I’ve got a heat pump so use a lot of leccy and batteries don’t always last though, it’s not worth the cost of adding more though unless o can get one cheap.

I wont be opting in, no sun today so I need the battery to get through to the cheap period. Currently on 65% which is fine, but makes no sense to run it down for 15p+12p and then import at 26.4p(Go). I'd be losing money after battery losses etc.

I'm pretty sure there will be a lot less people opting in, so the few us that do contribute won't make a lot of difference in the grand scheme of things. Be interesting what the stats are.

We will also be cooking dinner, and watching the news, so no extra effort on our part, apart from setting the schedule on my system.

I'm opting in but won't be doing any exporting and right now as I post charging house batteries as I have a power up from 2-4pm
Its utter madness :)

I will have a baseline above zero so may as well get a few free pennies.
Plus IMO its not just people not signing up in volumes like before but also the impact of lots of people signing up but saving naff all.
Should help send the message that if they want to see a real drop they need to stop paying lolworthy amounts.

Edit, the streamlit app says my baseline is 0.22kwh. Will work out what to blow my 3p (rounded up) on a bit later in consultation with the missus ;)

Doubt it'll make any difference because its not Octopus setting the price, there have been loads of sessions and they've been bidding 25/30p and always rejected while 15p was accepted, so now they've joined the 15p crowd. Seems to be working exactly as the NESO wants, pushing it to the lowest possible price.
