Varies on how you learn. It took me about 20 lessons @ £15 (used me own car) most charge anywhere from £16 to £22, I've always been told an Indi instructor is almost always as good (if not better) than someone like BSM
calculator says i spent 290 on lessons and tests. Not too bad, but I did do most of my learning in my own car, which obviously was at fairly significant expense, actually scrub that, just worked out insurance and fuel only cost £30-35 a week and that meant a lot of time behind the wheel.
I spent about £466 on Lessons and Tests etc.. based on 20 Lessons, 1 Theory and 3 Practicals (Only did 2 beacause I was 2 minutes late on my second lol)
But thats not factoring insurance and fuel, because as I said I did most of it in my own car.
I know thats the average amount but 40 hrs is ridiculous, most people I know didnt take more than 20...apart from one guy who was useless and passed on his 6th test...and still cant drive to save his life.
It's not. Not everyone are as confident people. After 20hrs i could drive but still felt edgy.
I think it depends on how you take the hours. For me im more confident with two hours a week spread out into 1hr lessons twice a week, rather than one 2hrs lesson once a week. If you get me.
Everyone i know passed inbetween 30-50hrs. Its not ridiculous it depends on the person and their confidence.
i think i had about 6 lessons with one instructor..
he passed away (not on the job!) and then I switched to a new one and had 10 lessons then took my test... but i had about 3millions hours of driving with my folks so i suppose it depends on that..
Where do they get the average from? I was just told by instructer so don't know if it's true or not.
The lowest guy i've spoken to took 32hrs to pass, the other girl i know took 50 something to pass. I'm in the 30's and have my test next week but even after 30+hrs i still feel very nervous!
I'm a very nervous shy person anyway so guess it shows in driving.
The only people i know of that took sub 20hrs to pass are people who have drivin their dads/friends/brothers car before hand, or had their dad/family member take them out in a car.
I had around 20-25hours, 1hour a week, and didnt go out with parents, my sister had loads more than me, double i think, and she passed on her 3rd attempt.
I can understand people needing 30hours, but an average of 40 does seem very high.
45 + 20 hrs with friends and family is the UK average, whilst lots can get to test standard quite quickly there are lots out there that cannot do it that quick, it has nothing to do with being fleeced as jamief put it
, you also have to remember not everyone is a 17yr old car enthusiast, some are in their 50s+ and it can take quite a while to do at that age
if you look at saving for 45hrs then anything left over is a bonus towards car + insurance, but don't be surprised if you need more as some people need more.
