Saving up for driving lessons

I has 20 lessons, had to be 2 hour ones though as we lived 30 mins driving time (lived in country) from the test centre and so learning on the roads where the test is (ie town centre)..

Soo much money :(

Did past first time with no minors :)

Did get a SP30 a week later :( :(

I asked in the BSM shop before starting my lessons how many on average, and when they said 40 I kept walking.

If it is taking someone 40 lessons to be to test standard (which is just that, not a good driver) then I would have to question the instructor's ability, as much as the pupil's.

Booked mine after 6 and passed after 10. :D I did however get to out on a sunday with my old dears as I had my first car already insured.

Just do 3hrs a week, that way you don't need to save. If you can practice with parents/friends as well.

10 x 2hr lessons should be more than enough for anyone.

Apart from the first 2, I would always do 2hr lessons. you learn more and you learn to concentrate.

After all on test day. You will have an hrs lesson before then the test. So get use to driving none stop for 2hrs.

22hrs (1 x2hr lesson a week) including the hour before test and hour rental of their car for test iirc, no car to drive in and 2 minors with BSM.

My friend who did 7 tests before passing (still maintains he is a great, but unlucky driver) only managed 50 hours or something. 40hrs as an average is pretty epic.

As for cost they were free with tesco vouchers (try if it still works), as we kept getting new "learner packs", although I think really we should only have been limited to one, as they changed this before our penultimate pack was ordered, so we had to pay 6hrs.

I think it was ~£22 so 22^2 = £484 including test car from BSM.

BSM were conning me!

I had 16 hours with BSM and was forecast another 20 on top of that  .

A friend gave me a card for a local indy, for some reason I felt compelled to pay the £25 for the 2hr assessment. He said I was at test standard, so I booked my test and had another 2 hour lesson in between (cheaper than BSM)and passed. :p

I must have had around 80 - 100hrs worth of lessons!
Just did two hours every week and towards the end the instructor was getting annoyed with me not booking the test :D He kept saying "you really are ready now", but I just couldn't be arsed. Sure enough I passed first time and haven't had an accident yet, so I suppose they worked!

BSM was gona charge me 22 a lesson, 19 if your a student. Had 20 lessons with some unknown company, failed my test, had 8 lessons with BSM, passed.

I had about 36 hours of lessons but i was only having 1.5 hours a week. If i had practiced in my own car in between lessons then yeah i could have done it in a lot less time. You tend to forget stuff when your not behind the wheel for 6 days then only 1.5 hour lesson then another 6 days etc.

£2k worth of lessons!.

Thats a safe estimate, if you allow for that it shouldn't come to more but will probably be less.

BTW what air rifle is that min your sig?, HW95 by any chance?.

I've changed my instructors too many times, which didn't help and I think I barely driven an hour with my folks (and that was in 2 different cars). Also had a few "breaks" in between getting lessons. My second instructor had a battered 140k on the clock Clio and he wasn't very technical, but admittedly I got confident with a car real quick with him as he got me on a dual carriageway on the first lesson with him when the most advanced thing I done was drive at about 20mph on a quiet estate.

Currently paying £150 for 10 hours and find the guy and car a lot better than BSM who I started with and other instructors. Frankly I could've opted for the test earlier, but while I could drive, I didn't feel fully confident behind a wheel. Only around 2 weeks left till the test now so we'll see how that goes.
