Say Hello to Jaypeg

Cute hamster there Sic.
I hope you enjoy looking after it :)

Just out of curiousity, did it settle in right away or was it scared or timid to begin with?

she'd settled before she got out of the shop, bless. we chose her because she came up to the glass, sniffed around, and then went and walked over all the other hamsters to try and wake them up :D we thought she was funneh

but i've only taken her out twice over the last 2 days, because apparently you're supposed to leave them in...i couldnt, she was looking at me! :o she 'asn't bitten me or nuffink

That's good. I've usually found that for about a week or so it's best to leave the hamsters alone and let them settle. Introduce yourself slowly because they get scared so easily, but it looks like she's really friendly and doesn't know any different :p
You'll probably only get bit if you scare them or try and pick them up when they're sleeping (like, putting your hand into their nest) although they're so cute when you pick them up and they're still asleep in your hand :)

What cage did you end up getting?

Thats it. I'm going to buy a ****load of rotastak bits on the bay and four lady hamsters.

I'll have my own hamster empire!

How does that work with just lady hamsters or have I missed some diabolical plan?

I can't remember if I said or not, but I used a Habitat Safari one when I had hamsters. It's easy to put together, looks nice enough and easy to get parts for. I think at one stage I had the main cage with a little nest bit on the left of the cage and on the right a series of tubs leading into a maze with a look-out tower etc. Only problem was cleaning the attachments because it took a while :p

Dude lady hamsters eat their kids dude, I had a hamster when I was litle, it was a she, she got pregnant before we got them. Anyway one day I went back home school and I saw her eating these weird pink stuff...

They only eat their pups if they get a foreign scent on them. The mother resents the scent and eats the pups. It's why it's advised not to go around poking the new borns and to leave them alone :p

Lots of animals do that...They won't have boy hamsters with them so no kids.

That shouldn’t be funny but it is. :p

Same thing happened to me. The problem was she didn't eat them all. Some grow to be adults and you can guess what happened. Suffice to say we weren't short of a hamster of two. Make that twenty.

I've often wondered if it's possible to base a large portion of your diet on farmed rodents...

They breed fast, have lots of protein and are cheap to keep.
