Well put it this way, the file extension isn't .ping, it's png. Where has the i come from?

I pronounce it PeeEnGee., and my colleagues do to.

I pronounce .gif as giff, because of the i. If the .gif extension was .gf I'd call it GeeEff, not giff. etc etc etc

Just say what you see..
I see someone who doesn't know what they're talking about. "Ping" > "Pee en gee" ;) :p

This International Standard specifies a datastream and an associated file format, Portable Network Graphics (PNG, pronounced "ping"), for a lossless, portable, compressed individual computer graphics image transmitted across the Internet.
End of. ;)

No it isn't.

[edit]Unless you're actually on about PInG and not .PNG

I trust the creators of the file format more than I trust you, sorry.

Just like .GIF is pronounced "jiff" despite 90% of people getting it wrong; I trust the creators to know how to pronounce the file format they designed.

Portable I Network Graphics.......what does the I mean

It's spelled PNG but pronounced "ping". There is no I.

I pronounce it P N G because thats why I bleedin see, as well as seeing GIF, I say Giff. But I am aware that it is Ping and Jiff. :)

How does a thread about a hamster turn into a debate about the correct way to say file extensions

Only on a computer forum :D

Except they were beaten to it. I don't care who you 'trust'. Its absolutely irrelevant. Just like their pronunciation of their file extension :)
