Say hello to the new moderating team

You do it to 'give back' to the community in a way.

Certainly no advantages to it, just nice to be able to help members out with issues and keep the forums clean from spam and rubbish.

Fair enough, good luck :)

There are some forums where I never see a mod post, I thought that was where the UBs came in useful. The mods are going to have to cover a lot more threads now. Unless there is some kind of incentive scheme for hitting the RTM button. :)

Why? In the grand scheme of things, why on Earth does it actually matter why it was done?

Good question. I would say as someone who spends a lot of time here like so many other people, it does become a place that you care about. The fact that Spie felt it necessary to make a change means there was an issue with the old Mod team. The fact that this has changed means that it is likely to change the moderation, even if this happens to be in a very subtle manner. This in turn affects all of us on the forums and for a fairly close community that we are and this has implications.

I admin one of the largest UK forums as a part time job to supliment my income. I have under 200 posts though. Most moderation does not involve public posting.

So it was a convoluted way of cutting the faces that dont fit and voices that dont conform to the 'code of conduct'. Bravo.

Convoluted?

People were invited to re-apply. Some chose not to :)

That's what is different about here, Dons need to be part of the community and a faceless mod wouldn't be able to be effective 'outside of the box'.

Edit: It'd be interesting to see what this Code of Conduct actually says.

you get paid to admin a forum? how many hours a day do you spend 'admining' it? and how much do you get paid?

I don't think we'll know any real reasons behind the reshuffle. At least not in the near future.

Seems a bit strange though, but n/m. We shall see.

Because not all of those 800 or so are posting at the same time? 15 is perfectly fine.
Thats still an awfull lot of user's posts to moderate.
I think its putting too much pressure on the mods to be moderating all the time. And i'm concerned the gd might become a mess again in the holidays. But i suppose we'll see.

Whats the difference between a commissario and a don?

A public thanks for their efforts for everyone who's "lost" their job for whatever reason. I dread to think how much work it is to moderate a forum of this size! The one I mod on is dead compared to ocuk :D

I'm sure the slimmed down team will cope just fine :)

Right, enough **** licking, to the pub :D

Disagree. There hasn't always been the same number of moderators and over the year/s, there have been an increased number. Not everyone swears and "misbehaves" so to speak. I very rarely see posts that are against the rules. This is because the current work are effective enough.

But we know that they wouldn't be accepted, otherwise there would be no point of this entire exercise. You don't fire an employee and then tell them, if you re-apply you might get your job back. You either want them on your team or you don't.

Saying they could re-apply just sounds like a way to soften the blow to me. :)
