SB-E pricing?

Yup, to be honest people are assuming there will be a 22nm IB-E late next year, but people don't seem to realise that its extremely unlikely.

RIght now you've got hexcores on 1366, they were launched much later and are slower per core than Sandybridge however Sandy doesn't have 6 cores so 1366 hex's are still much faster in applications that can use 6 cores properly.

SB-E still makes sense, Ivy is out not much later, but still quad core so hexcore Sandy's will still be much faster in the right applications.

Now a theoretical IB-E, if it comes out, as hex cores...... Haswell is out less than half a year later, and it WILL be bringing hex or octo cores to mainstream.......its a new architecture, its a tick or tock(which is bigger, never know which is which :p ), it will likely rip a theoretical hex core Ivy bridge to pieces.

Even if it did happen, it would be a horrible enthusiast platform with Haswell spanking it most likely and very soon afterwards.

Also you've got the issue that, Ivy WAS set for very late this year or very early next year. SB-E has also slipped 6 months from initial targets, if Ivy only launches in May-June, then with Haswell due a year later, there isn't a whole lot of time to fit Ivybridge in there.

Meh, there's almost no one you'd recommend SB-E to, those who make a living based on time it takes to crunch numbers, people who do rendering work and the like at home and need the power, sure, it will pay for itself eventually. Gaming, not a chance, encoding... saving a few minutes every few weeks doesn't seem worth the cost.

Sandy bridge's are fantastic chips, they'll EASILY last till Haswell, Ivy has very little compelling reasons for upgrading from sandy(ie, none).

Haswell could/should be awesome, seriously awesome with hopefully at least 6 cores but maybe 8 cores at mainstream pricing, might well be 8 cores at 2600k type pricing and 6 cores at 2500k prices.

Anything from now till then will be minor upgrades at best.

Have I ever told you how much I adore your log explains posts DM?

So Haswell is due for 2012 end?

Do you think AMD will bring anything tithe table to compete with ivy?

I haven't been able to find anything official about a 22nm Socket 2011 chip from Intel, only speculation on forums.

I'm just presuming that will be the case, be a bit stupid of Intel to release 22nm on the mainstream socket but not on their premium platform.

Sandy Bridge (1155) 32nm
Sandy Bridge-E (2011) 32nm
Ivy Bridge (1155) 22nm
Ivy Bridge-E (2011) 22nm

That's my understanding of it anyway, I guess there is a lot of speculation and not enough facts doing the rounds at the moment though.

So do we have any idea when the 3xxxK chips are being released? Most sites seem to say week 46 which begins this Monday?

Maybe Gibbo has a spanking new rig at home with a big fat NDA on it! Come on m8, spill - we won't say anything :D

Correct.

All will be revealed (very) soon.

True. But i find it hard to believe that they wouldn't release a 22nm LGA2011 chip don't you? It's completely possible, so why not?

I completely agree, I just find its absence from Intel roadmaps a little curious.

Perhaps we will learn more when SB-E is released next week.

I hope you've all been saving your pennies:
Yes, I have. As much as it pains me to admit, I'm almost at the point where I actually don't care how much it costs, I just want to upgrade from my crusty old QX6700. Which isn't at all crusty or especially old...
