The Ledbury scallops cooked on a licorice stick.

Very over cooked :(

Nothing like fresh scallop from a diving trip!

Sea bed to cleaned and in the frying pan within 15 mins

I just want to add to the love of Scallops. Really are so simple to cook and a true delight.

I made them the other week with celeriac puree and a black olive tapendae. Was delicious.

I went to a psh buffet a few monthsback, scallops cooked up fresh in front of you to order with a choice of sauces - saffron Cream, cognac, chili-lime. I had a god 1-1.5lbs... The real killer was the Thai style baby ribs, my god, I must have eaten my way through a herd of baby piglets.
Washed down with a bottle of champagne and a laphroaig 30 year as a digestive.

Total cost - 1 hour listening to a seminar on child labour.

I also recently enjoyed 'Scallops Chili Fry' at a rather nice indian restaurant - so much heat and flavour, but still retaining the delicate scallop taste :)

A great combination and a nice difference from the usual bacon/puree setup.

I was told very young not to have them as my mum has a very severe allergy to them which is likely to be passed on (proper shock reaction), so I have missed out. I've recently had bad reactions to octopus and squid which I understand share some chemical with scallops (although I ate both of those when younger with no probs).

My wife is always banging on about how delicious they are which is annoying! Quite fancy getting tested so I know either way and then could try them if OK.

Keep your eye on groupon, especially London. They Often have allegy testing on there for 70% off. Or maybe GP can do it for free?

I dont like fish and shell fish much but was told to try scallops and they were very good Had mine with a mild garlic butter.

Thanks for that, I will. GP was really unhelpful about it. I went in after the penny dropping that I had been really ill for the third time with octopus and squid and her solution, was don't eat any seafood. Most seafood doesn't even share properties with octopus and squid so that was just fobbing me off rather than the NHS have to pay for a test.

My girlfriends dad gets them from friends, in a trade for lobsters he catches.

Had some the other day when at the other half's parents house. Pea puree, and crispy bacon (although I didn't have any) with it. Oh my gosh they are so so so so delicious.
And a cheeky bit of marinated lobster tail on the plate as well :)

That looks awesome.

I've just had Sunday lunch but could do a plate of them right now, I love scallops :)

Scallops are delicious.

I love them in Chinese cuisine, where it is typically made in a soup or steamed, rather than fried.

In Hong Kong (and probably China), they are sold in a dried out form so they keep a lot longer. I don't think the taste is harmed in anyway, you just need to rehydrate them before cooking:

I'm a big seafood fan, and a favourite shellfish of mine is Abalone. I haven't had them outside of chinese cuisine, so it is typically cooked 'wet' in some sort of sauce, steamed, or made in a soup. They can be quite expensive, and you can find them in Chinese shops in the UK in tinned form. The size of them can be not much bigger than a scallop to something that is the size of a fist.
