Scam? Seems like a good one if it is.

I was getting a bit worried, as I didn't think he was a scammer, especially when he was offering to Bank transfer the money up front.. And I'm glad the bank confirmed this is 'final' as such, as I've relied on that when buying/selling myself!

I can understand peoples suspicion though, you just have to be, but I think common sense prevails, as long as the cash is in the bank and you've at least checked he's really french, I think you've done all you need to.

I assume you'll accept his offer then?

Another 2 phone calls, he's very keen for me not to sell it to anyone else.

He's going to tranfer the money on Thursday as he's just sold his old Elise and is waiting for the cheque to clear (which ironically he bought from Yeovil in the first place)

The money should be in my account by Thurs/Fri and he plans to come over next Friday to pick the car up which means I should have had the money in my account for over a week by that point.

He's being very trusting, I could easily just not pick him up from the airport next week and run off with his money.

anybody know what moral values are like in france ?

is it just our country that suffers from the social problems with chavs, scallies and knife crime etc..

I dont know enough about france to know if they suffer from similar problems to us. Could maybe understand his trust, if perhaps france doesnt suffer the way we do with mistrusting others.

I've never had that sort of issue in France, but I'm slightly biased. You do get the scallies and undesireables but they're more of the opportunist-type.

He is being very trusting - but I guess maybe he's doing an insured transaction with his bank? Who knows.

I like french people. I'd have had to walk about 20 miles up alpine roads if it wasn't for a frenchman picking my wet self up in his car after I'd been down the Chateau Queyras bit o' river.

Likewise. I have always found them lovely and extremely helpful.

Just thought I would post that I hope all goes well.
As you have said a few people on MLOC and SELOC have sold to people in France, as they get a cracking deal. When I come to sell mine one day I would be happy to sell to them, just make sure its all done right like you are.

Me too. I think it's the poor sods that live in the expat infected areas that tend to not be very friendly toward the British, and quite honestly I can't blame them.

Well, I currently have an extra £16500 in my account right now. Mr Frenchman doesn't even know where I live or my phone number yet he's put his trust in the fact that I'm supposed to be picking him up from the airport next Wednesday. Crazy!

Looks like he was a lot more trusting than me!

cool, good luck :)

when i bought the leon, i took a train to saarbrücken and then the seller picked me up, got the export plates and then i went to pick it up.
we forgot to go to the bank and he couldn't be bothered to go back, so i gave him almost €10,000 in €500s, and i left the country before he could even check if it was real.

i don't think i would have done the same :o

Well done.

The guy who bought my Skyline deposited over £30k in my bank account a week before even bothering to pick up the car. I couldn't believe it at the time. :o Either £30k was nothing to him or he was the most trusting guy I've ever come across.
