Scam? Seems like a good one if it is.

ask yourself

would you pay 16,000 euros to some french guy for a car you never see?

If the images showed enough detail and it seemed in mint condition, yes.

Would you trust some English bloke to hand over the car upon your arrival, after you have just given him 16k for (up until this point) nothing?

With the exchange rate the guy is getting a £17k car for £12k, so hes probubly not that bothered if its not mint, as as long as its in 'more than £12k' condition, hes still quids in... So its in his benifit to trust the seller that its mint, and bag a bargan.

Just wait for the exchange rate to fall back the other way and buy it back :)

Another way would to insist the guy puts cash into your bank that way it would be a deposit and he couldnt(i dont think) claim it was fraudulant.

You could hijack a bank account. but its a bit harder to withdraw the cash and pay it into another bank. Something he should be able to do at his own branch.

Chances are they wont actually count out the cash but it should be treated the same

Or I could be massively wrong

Can't you get his address in France and his telephone number form him? Surely you can then do a check on their electoral roll?

I'm gonna get my mate at work to give him a ring later (he's fluent in French) so hopefully find out whether he's genuine or not.

No matter how the money goes in, whether by pigeon carrier or depositing £1 coins at a time, if the money is not legit/linked with criminal, the police informs bank to freeze all monies.

The problem is, you dont know this guy, he resides abroad, so by the time anything happens, he'll prob be on the 'Ring lol.

Hmmm the bit for me that rings alarm bells a bit is this.

"Could you confirm me you have full Lotus history, and the car is in mint condition? Never used on track?"

And the willingness to pay practically asking without even seeing it.

I'd be extremely cautious tbh. Lot of money!

this is what I thought..

he's committing to early and offering a price to try and hook you in.

possibly legit, but I'd steer clear.

Spoke to my bank and they confirmed that as soon as the tranfer is done, and the funds are showing in my account it's safe. With a direct BACS transfer the money can't be taken back.

From reading SELOC forums it looks like there's a fair few buyers from France who are buying from the UK because of the weakness of the pound. In France a crap S1 Elise is about €20,000 so to be able to buy a mint S2 111R for the same price is a bargain to them and worth a train journey to Bristol.

Ah, wouldn't it be an ironic twist if the King of Nigeria started being scammed by the British... take the guys money and give him a false address :p

Update

I got Franck to phone my mate at work which he did. He's definitely French and not Nigerian and I'm pretty confident that he's legitimate as he's just spent the last 15 mins on the phone.

Cool, I'm glad that it was a legit Frenchman, I certainly didn't see anything wrong with the advert and I like being right. :D
