Scammed by maintenance man

The op sounds like that game Star Citizen that everyone keeps paying money into. They should what could be done, everyone paid in and nothing gets released on time!

Just pretend the garden is an early access game! Similar thought process behind it which is why you should never pay in full before something is complete.

I would cut your lawn for twenty quid and I would take the cuttings away for free.

Lawn is massive and there were a lot of weeds in between the cracks. Also the lawn hadn't be cut for a very long time, grass was almost knee high.

He rang yesterday morning and had a go about me leaving such a bad review on ratepeople.com. Also they've suspended his account until he finishes my job of. He complained it was affecting is lively hood, I explained if you simply did the job I paid you for you wouldn't be in this mess.

Gonna call ratepeople.com again as he's still not removed the pile of pots, tubs and rubbish.

I'm impressed that RatedPeople have left that negative review up - and it's obviously made him pay attention. I'm not surprised by his hostility to you though, he sounds like a prize idiot and he's getting everything he deserves for being such a chancer.

What happens when he completes the job? Will RatedPeople make you edit the review?

out of interest OP. did you check raterpeople before hiring this guy?

Yes he had teh most reviews and all but 1 gave him full stars

IF he completes the job I'll edit my review and let RatePeople know so they can re-instate his account. I told him this yesterday morning and he's still not lifted the rubbish.

Interesting to see people saying £150 is steep, it may be but I guess it depends on the size of the plot (described as 'massive') and the total amount of time taken. FYI the OP posted a thread including pics about this prior to works commencing: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18600441&highlight=startername_elrasho

I may be a bit naive but to be honest if I hired a tradesman to do a job that would take over half a day (not clear if this is the case) and included tasks requiring specific tools I would be expecting a three figure bill.

Strikes me as the sort of 'bits and pieces' work that will traditionally get fitted around other jobs which is likely why you've been messed around. My father for reasons best known to himself persists on using a builder he's used for the past decade or more who is notoriously unreliable, he'll say he'll be round to do jobs but months if not years pass by before he gets round to them. Bizarrely though he doesn't seem to manage his cashflow very well, he'll not even bill for jobs he did weeks ago and then randomly turn up on the doorstep asking for cash payment that same day.

I hope you're prepared for him to take a massive dump through your letterbox.

I am working on a prototype that I hope to put before the Dragons, its a sort of letterbox nappy that collects the poo as it comes through the letterbox, preventing it from making a mess of the hall carpet. I will sell OP a prototype for 200 English pounds!

He came and picked up the pots and rubbish... Leaving behind a pot, a pan, a broken mop and a washing line base. At least he got most of the rubbish but still after all this I'd expect him to have lofted all the rubbish that he piled up himself before he did the lawn. On and he left a nice big glob of a spit on the pathway.... Classy

guess your bad review stays as it is then....

you should probably take a few minutes to mention the cash payment/no invoice thing to HMRC (prob small fry but might be interesting for them - esp if he's vat registered) and you might as well let your local trading standards know about the guy too

That's the smallest garden I've ever seen, how could that be described as massive?

Even a half days work for a minimum wage job is £25.
