Scammed out of an iPhone - 6S Plus weight with box?

Never understand people buying phones for their full price. I have always found contracts to be cheaper. You pay monthly for the phone, minutes, texts and internet where if you just buy the phone than you have to pay for a service for it too.

After 12 months, the phone becomes yours and you can upgrade to a new one while you sell the old one.
last time i did the maths the cost of 24 month contract on an iphone vs purchase outright and sim only (like for like deals) was pretty much the same over 2 years (give or take a few quid).

these days with a purchased outright OP3 and £18 sim only im quids in.

For a new customer, likely yes but who is a new customer these days?

If your a long term customer. You can negotiate the price. Currently right now, I could get a newest iPad for free and just pay the monthly £25. Where a new customer would have to pay about £100 or so for the device plus the monthly fee of about £30 or so. Same deal pretty much for the newest iPhone or Samsung.

Say goodbye to your money then.

As above

I've been scammed on Gumtree before. Will never use it again.
More fool you. If you use Gumtree as intended it's almost impossible to get scammed. If you buy things from a distance on a site that is intended for face to face transactions then that's your problem, not Gumtree's.

I wouldn't say you've been scammed out of an iPhone, more you've been scammed out of £££.

They're asking me to provide proof but I don't really know what I can send. Seller is off gumtree and payment was via paypal buyer protection.
It says wise guy under your pic to the left, ironing?

e: Paypal and Gumtree should never appear in the same sentence.

Open a dispute with Paypal and say it never arrived.
Last resort say your account was hacked\bank details stolen, something like that anyway :) good luck.

Just take a photo of what was sent? what sort of proof do they expect some video footage of the seller swimming in mobile phones doing an evil laugh?

I'd just send them a photo of what exactly was sent - there isn't any 'proof' per say that you can send in this instance other than describing what happened and showing them what arrived. Hopefully they'll side with you - if not then try to get his address and go for the small claims court.

I've generally found that buying a phone without contract is cheaper tbh...

Assuming it was shipped insured then the seller, if they insist the phone was in the box when it was shipped, should open a claim with Royal Mail. If they don't want to do this then I would get suspicious.

You found it on Gumtree and paid via Paypal? Really? Is this your first time on the interwebs?

Take it as the price to learn a lesson...that everyone else with a little bit of common sense learns for free.

Unbelievable.
