Never understand people buying phones for their full price. I have always found contracts to be cheaper. You pay monthly for the phone, minutes, texts and internet where if you just buy the phone than you have to pay for a service for it too.

After 12 months, the phone becomes yours and you can upgrade to a new one while you sell the old one.

Contracts are never cheaper. Occasionally a really good deal comes along, which is why i have my first contract in 10 years, but its still not cheaper.

People on gumtree are completely random with no feedback system or history and could live on the other side of the world.

Why people hand over £300 to random people over the internet completely based completely on trust that they will be sent some goods is beyond me. That money is gone.

Gumtree - ONLY EVER deal face to face. You have almost zero chance of getting your money back here as you can't prove what you did or didn't get.

Try a dispute via paypal but I severely doubt you'll win the case.

I agree with above - send it back recorded delivery - get them to sign for it and hope to god paypal side with you.

Gumtree is cash only face to face. Paypal payments are scams 95% of the time.

It's Gumtree you pay and collect for the stolen goods in person.

Seller/buyer protection still is in place so long as it wasn't PayPal Gift.
