Scariest Game you have ever played?

I'm a complete girls blouse when it comes to stuff like this - I remember getting vertigo playing a level that consisted of a big central tower in the first Tomb Raider for Christ's sake - so I've never played a lot of those mentioned here.

I did, however, play Doom 3 and I remember a bit fairly early on where I was exploring a bathroom on the base and my marine made the mistake of looking in a mirror ... I was playing late at night and I leapt off my chair - was a bag of bloody nerves after that!

Assassin's Creed II :D my fear of heights kicked in, the mission where you had to find stone or whatever it was called, I believe it was used to open the cage with altair's armor, the mission basically required me to get on top of a cathedral from the inside... so as you can see im not into games which main goal is to scare you.

I have to agree with all those who said Doom 3 and Dead Space. The gloomy atmosphere and surprise attacks really got the heart racing.

It may have been before your time, but nobody mentioned Phantasmagoria. Although it was slow-paced, the life-like interaction at the time and the overall storyline made the game pretty creepy, especially playing at night.

A little before that time was The 7th Guest:

Donkey kong.....man that game scared the pants off me...that evil kong hurling barrels at me and flames just licking at my body constantly. The princess is locked in a cage and if i dont save her, what the heck will kong do to her? It makes me shiver all over just thinking about it again :(

A bit oldschool but the gramaphone in Realms of the Haunting which when activated plays a loop of a baby crying with a man and women laughing freaked me out... That was creepy.

I was young, but this was a bit eery. Just realised DMA Designs (now Rockstar) made this.

I was 6 o.O

This comment on youtube sums it up for me;

Watching that video still gives me the willies. It was terribly creepy listening to doors opening and closing with none of your team moving. You just knew it was a monster coming after you!

Kind of had that Aliens feel to it.

I found Ravenholm in Half Life 2 pretty scary and a few of the flood missions on Halo: 2. I haven't played many scary games, though.

Dead Space is kind of scary but to me it's more about the tension. When I play it I find I'm creeping forward slowly with my gun constantly held out, just waiting for the next attack. It's unnerving, but nothing compared to...

Dead Space... I thought it would be scary but when I saw the enemies, I burst out laughing - they are just plain ridiculous. :/

Doom 3 - I had to give up on that before I had a heart attack.

To me, Silent Hill (not sure which) was scary on PS. The radio starts crackling then OHJESUSCHRISTONABIKE! One of those flying things appears behind you.... :D

I won't even touch Amnesia because I think it'll give me palpitations and possibly cardiac arrest.
