Scariest thing you have ever done ?

When i was learning to surf in Cornwall a couple of years ago. There ware warnings all over about riptide and i just stupidly ignored them thinking this fairly large wave would be easy enough to ride in on (bear in mind this was probably my second day of surfing and i could barely stand on the board). I rode it in a little bit and fell off. I went under water and got pulled back by the riptide, my board followed and smashed me in the face dazing me and i 100% disorientated in about 10ft of water - i really thought i was going to die. Riptide is so much more dangerous than people think it is.

I knowingly went home with a full on fat, ginger swamp donkey and knocked one into her, just to prove that i dared do it.

When i say swamp donkey i actually mean that she was hideous to the extreme, horrible to look at, quite fat and just overall minging.

That said she was probably the best i have ever been with, there was absolutely nothing that she wouldnt do, and some things she would do that i just had to say no to!

Needless to say the next morning i was quite scared.

The two 'scariest' things are probably being in a complete whiteout on a Bulgarian mountain (no horizon, no reference points, no idea where the edge is) and my mate getting severe cramp while we were swimming off Bournemouth beach and trying to get him back to the beach. Didn't really have time to be scared with either of those though, just "oh ****!" then you're too busy thinking about what you've got to do. Still give me the jitters when I think about them though.

Most scared I have felt was sitting outside the OR while my wife was being prepped for an emergency cesarian. Also the best cup of tea I've ever had!

My taxi journey from Sharm el sheikh to Naama Bay....was at night and the Taxi driver had no lights on and was going rather fast....worst thing is the guys on the Taxi all looked proper dodge thought we were gonna get mugged. Oh yea and he drove with the Side door open as well and one guy was hanging out the whole time just smoking and shouting at women walking along the paths :(

Not doing a tandam Parafliding off MT Babadag in Turkey, it was the ride up there on the back of a lorry with bald tyres

Snap!

Im **** scared of heights, but there was no way in hell I was taking the jeep back down the mountain - no alternative but to paraglide.

Yesterday one of my colleagues managed to accidentally overdose on painkillers. That was interesting! (I'm one of the office first aiders)

There have been a few things, but the first one that sprung to mind was about 18 months ago snowboarding. It was late in the day, and I managed to get seperated from the group at the wrong end of the 3 valleys. I managed to get the last lift back to the top, only to find the cloud coming down. I could just about see from one marker post at the edge of the piste to the next, so I made my way down slowly, pretty knackered by this time. I remember thinking "If I lose it and go off, they won't find me up here until tomorrow". I made it to a halfway cable car station just as the lift crew were heading down in the last few cars. They looked a little surprised to see me but I was glad I didnt have to go any further in that fog!

PK!

Whiteouts are a pain in the **** more that scary most of the time. Unfortunately they can become quite regular on some holidays. :(

Having said that they can become rather worrying if certain things go wrong and you think you're left on the other side of a mountain with night time coming (sister had to race down a mountain in one to try and find the last lift guy, every lift she got to was shut until pretty much the last option).

I can't really think of any really scary things off hand, a few "wish I hadn't done that" moments where I realise to extricate myself from where I was I'd have to do rather "stupid" things but nothing "OMG I'm going to die"...

One of those would be climbing down a crumbly, almost vertical cliff face about a mile from the nearest path using nothing but tufts of grass and a geology hammer (I'd climbed up it without realising quite how steep it was)...

Being involved in a high speed chase through Bristol city center and being confronted by armed police.

That left me shaking for about 3 days.

Police stopped me and 4 of my friends, 3 of us with about a quarter oz of weed on us (each). So scared at the time, luckily they chose the 1 of us with no weed to search, but the time we had to stand there with an officer watching us while he got searched in the back of a van was terrifying.

Intriguing post is intriguing.

WTF did you do?

Stupidly got in a car with a mate who was drunk and on drugs. Police started tailing us and when the lights came on he lost it and booted it instead of pulling over. Didn't help that he had a blacked out vectra that looked like a dealers car.

Totally out of character for him but I still wasn't best pleased.

Had a blowout at 90mph and hit a barrier when 3 police cars surrounded us and armed police removed us from the vehicle.
