Scary FPS's

Thief 3 has a level called The Cradle that is probably the best crafted spooky level of a game. Play it in the dark with the sound up and its very very chilling.

Probably the scariest part of any game i have ever played. In fact its scarier than most films i've seen. This is a definite must. Either that or Alien vs Predator.

u might want to censor your language there krisboats.. before the admin do it for with the ban hammer

AVP1 was much scarier than 2 in my opinion ...

Fear: Gave me some real frights, but more unnerving than scary. Although one bit near the end when....no, I'm not gonna spoil it.

Clive Barker's Undying: Every time I reach a certain point in the game, about 8 hours in, I have to stop playing. Turns me into jelly. Tried three times - same result each time.

Doom3: Stopped playing after I was a good way in. I thought the expansion was scarier. Gave me some real OH MY LORD! moments though.

Condemned: Good fun - well scary at points, but not enough to make me wet my pants like some of the others (which was good, cos I got to finish it ;)).

But the all-time great, killer scary, most frightening game of all time (in my ever so humble opinion) is now so dated I wouldn't suggest it to anyone.....but does anyone else remember Realms of the Haunting? What a game that was. One of my all-time favourites.

System shock 2, those damn nanny droid things, gave me the creeps.

I still have a very vivid memory of when I 1st met a midwife

Was walking down a corridor with my trusty shotgun loaded with anti-personnal ammo when I could hear someone talking, sounded like a women was talking to a baby.

I started creeping along the corridor, all the while thinking to myself, this women sounds pretty ****ed up, peaked round the corner to see 1 standing next to an egg, before I could even ask myself what the hell was going on, see turned round, started screaming and ran towards me.

Think I managed to hit everything besides her

The most heart pounding moment I can remember was the first time I heard the foot steps of a Cyberdemon in Doom 2. Its amazing to think a crappy low res sprite with some midi files for audio could cause so much terror!

I remember the level where a Cyberdemon teleports back and forth between two rooms (one of which has the exit) made me scream like girl. :o

Map10 (refuse base) IIRC. Kinda annoying too as I think you get the BFG there but by the time it fires sometimes he's teleported out of the way :o

To answer the question, in terms of modern games the only two which provoke much of a physical reaction (shivers down my spine) were FEAR and suprisingly Painkiller (that town level when the witch flies past and these zombie things are breaking out of coffins).

And that is the mark of a truly pant-wetting moment. That second or so where you fire randomly into the area, with absolutely zero regard for anything before you step back (if possible), take a deep breath and then blow the offending individual to hell. Now if the game's really scary, you'll be in a panic for five seconds or more, and by the time you finally clear the room out, all you'll want to do is save, quit, and go have some Horlicks before bed ;)

Condemned is one of the creepiest games ive played this year. If youve got a good surround sound setup then make sure you have some clean underwear ready :) but the fps game this year that freaked me out the most has to be Call of Cthulhu. Its not the most polished game ever but its very atmospheric with great sound, and some truly 'unsettling' moments. Theres a part in the game where your without weapons and your being chased through a building, and you have to lock doors behind you. It makes FEAR look like rosie and jim.

Silent Hill 2, without a doubt. I'm surprised no-one has mentioned it. Toluca Jail is the most frightening and screwed-up experience I've had through any game.

EDIT - ok, it's not a FPS but it's still scary :D

I dunno if Rosie and Jim were chasing you through a building i would find that pretty ******* scary :D

In HL2 a chapter called "we don´t go to Ravenholm, I totally crapped my a** when one of those zombies crashed through a closed dor in a tight corridor! That chapter is one of the best!
