Scary Stuff...

ive heard about the GPS trackers before. We had a thread about it on VXROnline a few days ago.

Cut a long story short, one of the members got one attached to his and his wifes car, and it reports back to base speed, movement, location, etc.. and plots it all on a map so you can see where its been driven, where its parked, how fast it was driven etc.. Obviously you get the fob with it which means you get a phonecall if its driven without the tracker fob and remote shutdown as well.

Sounds like somebody has put this big brother type snooping to a completely different use, using it to follow expensive cars home and find the homer owner and their keys !

Hmmm, you may well be right. Didn't think of it from that angle.

Only 3 keyboards? Comeon Housey, this is no joke. You need at least 5 (preferably USB).

nahhh, you want wireless for extra mobility ;)

Bad stuff though, don't think i'll bother with an RS4 for my next car now :D

I call fake, motors is full of attention seeking members these days :D

Time to get the EMP generator out Housey!

not specifically this but this sort of thing and millenium burglary type events are the sort of thing that finally puts me off chopping into an Impreza or Evo tbh, I'd be bothered if my car was stolen, I'd be mortified if my family was put at risk because I wanted something fast.

Impreza STI badged as 1.6 ? win win :D

How did the Police know that a car in your area had been tagged? It's late and I'm tired so I am probably missing something obvious.

They had access to the tracking software, as stated in the OP.

I guess in the future the thieves will just switch to the GSM trackers like the ones on eBay, that way the police will not be able to detect anything other than a mobile phone signal.

To detect this one they had to have access to the software. If they hadn't managed to acquire said access they would have known nothing about it and I might have been filling in insurance forms. It was pure luck.
