Scary Stuff...

I guess in the future the thieves will just switch to the GSM trackers like the ones on eBay, that way the police will not be able to detect anything other than a mobile phone signal.

Those GSM ones are quite big though fortunately, I remember seeing 'Minorplanet' fitting some into the vans at work.

They're roughly the size of two bags of crisps layed down end to end.

To detect this one they had to have access to the software. If they hadn't managed to acquire said access they would have known nothing about it and I might have been filling in insurance forms. It was pure luck.

Yeah sounds like you are lucky that this particular bunch of thieves are 'fairly' low-tech! Although very high tech in the scheme of things. :)

The ones on eBay look much smaller than that, and one of the suggested uses is to put them on pet's collars. They have probably shrunk a lot in the past few years as it's still a relatively new device.

They all seem to be Sirf III devices which would make a nice small package and GSM tech is pretty small these days, just look at USB dongles.

we had an email about this at work (im your bib). Quite worrying, they will be back so keep checking the wheel arches and leave your keys downstairs for them to find as it is simply not worth putting yourself or indeed your family at risk.

What I will say is it would be extremly rare for officers to come to your home (just happened to look at the software?!). Were they in uniform?

You will have seen my pictures attached to it then, I know your man was going to share it as a new thing. ;)

and you are correct in saying that the RS4 is popular atm with crims. One doing A LOT of smash and grabs in West Mids at the moment. RS4 Estate, our volvos can not touch it!

Did this get sorted ? I may have some information, but wish to keep this off-forum. Do you have a decent email addy ?
