Just been having a read of the beeb website and came across this article..

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-york-north-yorkshire-11340226

Children at a school near Selby have had a play break cancelled and hard ball games banned after neighbours complained to the council about noise.

Who on earth would complain about this?

And seeing as the noise will be through the day, don't these people have jobs? (wear ear plugs if you're on night shifts).

I think this is one step too far, especially when the government is advocating that children need more exercise.

Surely in moving into a property near a school you are accepting the assosciated "problems" ie noise, traffic and large numbers of kids :s

Absolutely daft, its probably the lederly who as we know generally have nothing better to do than complain. It does seem fairly obvious that living near a school will mean noise at luch/break/home time.

Reminds me of the idiots who moved in to the Custard Factory/Digbeth area apartments in Birmingham. The area has a number of venues that play live music and have done so for decades. Then these idiots move in and are doing their best to get them silenced or shut down :(.

bbc.co.uk said:
A spokeswoman for North Yorkshire County Council said it was aware of complaints made by some of the school's neighbours to the environmental health department at Selby District regarding "excessive noise".

"We are not satisfied that a statutory noise nuisance exists from what amounts to normal use of the school and playground areas," she added.

"Nevertheless we are taking these complaints seriously and wish to maintain good relationships with local residents."

She added that an assessment of noise levels would be taking place over the next month.

Really annoys me when people move into an area like that then complain.

Don't know who was there first, I've always thought whoever was second shouldn't really have as strong say with certain issues because they should be made aware of them when they move in.

There's a club in Liverpool called The Blue Angel / 'Raz' which used to open its doors to a back patio area. People used to go there with their drinks for some air, or smoke or down pints and lob the glasses over the wall. This didn't matter because there was nothing over the wall, just scrap land. Somebody then bought that land and stupidly developed box houses on it, unsurprisingly the residents didn't like the noise and have complained to the point the club now has to shut its back doors.

This has annoyed the punters that smoke, or want to nip outside for a bit. It's left the club with poor air circulation so it gets hot if there are lots inside. This in turn has clearly affected business (years ago it used to be busy 5/6 days a week, now just the weekend).

The idiots here are the developers or whoever purchased the land. It's enclosed on four sides almost, with one side being the rear end of a night club.

It would hurt the clubs bottom line, but just because they got away with breaking the rules, there are noise, and behaviour rules surrounding the operation of night clubs, they were breaking the rules before, just no one caught or complained about it.

Its not hard to add AC units and ventilation, its a cheap crap tightwad owner who'd see his business go down the pan when alternatives aren't difficult to arrange. Surely if people went outside for a breather, it was already too hot in the club in the first place, opening a couple doors is a stopgap measure, not a fix. Of course, a couple extra doors, so people can go out back without letting out loud music, and people who go out for a smoke BEHAVING themselves and not smashing things and there wouldn't have been complaints in the first place.

Likewise, developed land probably pumped (depending on how big) 100k's to millions into the local economy, tax payments, tax on the profit, jobs for building and maintaining, tax on the wages of the builders, etc, etc, etc.

Wasted land being used and turned into jobs and profit and tax is FAR more important than a club owner too cheap to install proper ventilation and cooling into his business.

In terms of the school, stupid to complain, but then some playgrounds are nightmares, there are kids who will play, and make noise, and then sometimes theres kids who just scream, and keep screaming, and don't stop screaming, because they are little *****.

Even if you move into a school district, even then theres a level of noise to be expected, that doesn't infact mean the kids aren't behaving badly and being TOO noisey.

Considering how deaf most old folk are, its more likely to be some benefits scrounging idiot who took a cheap house without thinking about the consequences and its probably not "too loud" .

It's not just the general hubbub of kids in the playground it's the piercing screaming that carries for a long distance,
I can actually hear the screams from a school a mile away at certain times of the day but unless the school with the problem is newly built then the complainers should have had more sense than to move there in the first place

A school in trouble over noises at play time. Great Stuff!

I have school near me and i hear them playing all the time, I've never thought to complain because it's how its always been! I made noise in the school yard as a child, it's just what happens. Children have fun! God forbid!

It's the same sort of grade A &*$%£ that purchase a property nearby to a race track then bitch and moan about the noise!
There have been several long running motorsport events closed in this country due to bellchops that do just that.
I vote we round them up and beat them with a rolled copy of the dail mail they probably all love so much!

I think we should have shhh nannies in the playground. The moment some 6 year old starts having fun and lets out a giggle they should be immediately shushed by the shhh nannie, just so some old knackers can have a bit of peace.

It's not like they rave all through the night, it's only for a few hours during the day. I live near several schools and hear the noise coming from all directions, never once have I thought to complain about it, let the children play!

It's getting worse, one thing after another, ban this complain about that, where on earth is it going to stop?

Damn muslims.

;)

No doubt costing the tax payer thousands.

Seriously, someone should just say that they are being stupid and tell them to STFU!

They weren't breaking any rules because there were no residential units until recently. The people who developed the flats really didn't look into the surrounding area properly. They just built them and sodded off. It's worth noting that apparently none are for rent - they've all been bought.

A business owner that wouldn't spend money on her club but would rather go bust? Don't be retarded.

She already built higher fences over the walls, placed bouncers there to set a policy of plastic only out back. Air conditioning for a professional environment, especially a club isn't cheap. Don't forget too, like a lot of Liverpool, the bars and pubs are in very old buildings.

Clubs get hot when there are people in them, especially older ones - heck even newer ones do.

They had a solution which costs less and worked - it was the stupidity of the developers then buyers who bought property without thinking about it first.

Likewise, developed land probably pumped (depending on how big) 100k's to millions into the local economy, tax payments, tax on the profit, jobs for building and maintaining, tax on the wages of the builders, etc, etc, etc.

8 small ground floor box flats that is surrounded on 4 sides by other buildings? I think you over estimate their value, considering on one side was a busy club and that furthermore the city has a massive, massive surplus of flats.

Lol, this country is getting stupid now. Kids make noise, those complaining should realise they were kids once..

I would imagine all the parents need do is have a big board meeting with the governers and have it all fixed back up. Failing that they move their children else where. The government won't allow a school to go bust just because of some retard who complained about children playing.
