Schools - LOST THE PLOT?

The young ones have these sort of hair cuts, it's called fashion, many in this thread i guess must not leave their houses and see this in everyday life.

I do quite like this justification. School imposes rules on how pupils should dress and wear their hair = some sort of fascist regime and totally unreasonable. Fashion industry dictates how people should dress and wear their hair to be 'in or cool' and its ok :D

Just to put order back in place I think the OP now realises they accidentally made a mistake but is peeved by the way the school has dealt with it.
On the other hand the son should have known the haircut was wrong but probably thought his parents top trumped the school.
Let's face it, 12 year olds are on another planet.

/shakes head in disgust

you know i bet if the school had a rule that children had to hop to each class most of you would be fine with it. For what do they hop you ask? Well we dont need to give a reason...no sirree its a rule you see. So that clears that up.

If the gov introduced a law that limited freedom of expression by banning all types of haircuts except for mullets there would riots in the street.

Oppression begins with the most innocent and tiniest thing....this is behavioral psychology 101

Been into the school today, discussed it in a rational calm manner and they have agreed that isolation was too much and unfair, he is back in normal classes today, with the same haircut.

My wife admitted that she had not seen the rules on the haircut before (neither had I) and she explained that this is allowed at the school she works at, so didn't think it would be a major problem. Anyway the 2 teachers, his head of year and his form tutor agreed that isolation wasnt the best method of dealing with the situation, so they backed down, and we agreed that once it's grown, he will not be having that haircut again.

(for the record its not a style that I like myself lol)

Nice to hear a sensible resolution. :)

As for the people who have said in this thread because the parent cannot be punished the child must, would that go for murder too?

If I murdered somebody and I fled to Cuba and the UK authorities couldnt do anything about it, would it be right to arrest and punish my son for that too?

The responsibility for ones hair doesn't lie with just the parent unless you forced the haircut on your child.

If your child's excuse for not doing homework was that my parents told me I didn't have to do it, you think a 12 year old is absolved of all responsibility?

How you think that that extends to murder I am confused.

I think the crux here is that you think a 12 year old has no responsibilities. They signed up to the rules, just as much as you did.

How does a school punish a parent?

I would march into the head masters office and tell them that your son will be attending all classes as usual. Tell your son to go to his lessons as normal, the teachers can't force him out the classrooms, if they lay a finger on him have them done for assault.

So the kid broke the rules, and he shouldn't be punished?
Are you broken?

Breaking a patently absurd rule is a good thing. He shouldn't be punished for a hair style. Any punishment here should be on the moronic closed minded idiots who dreamt up such a pathetic facile rule in the first place. Petty idiots exerting their miniscule power trips in order to get their rocks off on their self entitlement crusades. Sad. Very sad.

Or a school enforcing a documented uniform code? Parents and kid should all be aware of this and they chose the school so hardly what you describe at all.

What's your point ? My point was not conforming to patently absurd rules, which I feel is valid and sound. What exactly is your point as it's not clear from your post ?

Shouldn't have signed up to it then if you disagree with the rule so strongly. Once you've agreed to follow them, don't break them.

That is true for all areas of life, be that work or school.

If you didn't like the uniform rules, go find one which you do like.

Alternatively petition the governers of the school. If it is so obviously absurd, shouldn't have any trouble convincing them of that.

So in other words you think its ok to go through life breaking any rules you find absurd or disagree with!

Thankfully this is not the norm for most people, especially those bringing up a child. That said you do spot these type of parents a mile off!

It seems the community it is divided here, so it shows that the rule is questionable? If we knew about the rule we would not have allowed the haircut in the first place, but we didn't know.

Either way I'm not that bothered about the rule itself, but the issue I had was the way it was dealt with.
