Sunshine is good, I liked it a lot, and it's not been mentioned so far.

Sunshine is a truly awful film. One of the worst I've seen in the last couple of years. The basic premise is decent, but the pacing is woeful, the story uninteresting, and with 20 minutes to go it realises it hasn't done enough to be anywhere close to decent so decides to throw in two more entire GENRES in an attempt to spice things up a bit. An epic vat of fail.

Terminator 2 is essential.
Alien
Robocop
Equilibrium is watchable if you can look past the furious masturbation into George Orwell's face.

I liked it too. Okay, perhaps the dude at the end was a little OTT.... But the premise was good, the acting was great, the research/realism was spot on, and the pacing of the film (for me) conveyed the long timeframe that doing anything in space takes.

Also, the soundtrack was nothing short of fantastic - and being a muso, that makes or breaks a film for me.

In fact, I'm gonna go watch it now!

Dark Star, john carpenter's first movie, funny as hell with psychotic talking nukes and a crazy beachball creature on the loose:D

"Don't give me any of that intelligent life crap, just give me something I can blow up "

"Bomb, this is Lt. Doolittle. You are *not* to detonate in the bomb bay. I repeat, you are NOT to detonate in the bomb bay! "

Such a spaced out film :D

watched dark city directors cut blu-ray last night after never even knowing about it,i fished for it after reading the reccommedation in this thread and wow what a great original film was really hard to believe it was 10 years old how much extra editing/touching up was done on the blu ray version i dont know but was visually stunning with a great story keeping you guessing what the hell was going on till way past 3/4 of the movie a must see for any sci-fi fan well impressed :)

Contact! Great sci-fi flick imo. A.I. is also amazing, Bicentennial Man is worth the watch as well.

What!!!??! These have to be the worse selection of Sci fi films I have had the misfortune of seeing!

Try:
Alien 1&2
Terminator 1&2
Invasion of the Body Snatchers 1978
The Thing
I Robot (short stories are much much better though.)
2001 & 2010 (to understand 2001)
Cant think of any others right now

You just voided your own argument there!

Cant believe nobody has mentioned Dune imo the best sci fi film
User Rating: 6.5/10 on imdb is a tragedy and something I find utterly bizzare it should be 10/10 better than even blade runner
