Don't think placenamed can ever be taken into account for pronunciation of words. Bicester, Worcester and Leicester for example

I agree, normally place names would not come in to it. However, you rarely get a place name that has a different pronunciation than a food product named after it! Makes the word scone somewhat of an anomaly!
