Next to the ketchup...
Right me and the Mrs(She's Scottish) have finally set a proper date for our wedding, the problem that I'm facing is she wants me to wear a kilt!

What I'm stuck on is what tartan to wear or go for a plain kilt. I'm English and have no ties to any Scottish family or clan..... her family has a tartan, but i'm not sure if it would be ok to wear this.

Can anyone help?

SRU tartan is nice.

Tis what I wore wanted to wear the rangers tartan but tbh it's minging.

Ha, you just gave me a great idea, one of my close mates is getting married to a scot... I'll make sure she makes him wear a kilt :D

Blackwatch is popular and easily available, Scotland 2000 is good, there is a Stewart one (I think) that is red and looks pretty good in wedding photos. Best bet is to head to a Kilt maker and see what he can do for you. Bear in mind the missus might want you to match the bridesmaids. Congrats btw.

Threaten to wear this :)

I nearly got beaten up at a wedding by a drunk scotsman in a kilt, was washing my hands when he came into the lav for a wee. Being drunk I commented on his kilt and said "You must be from the grooms side" as they are scottish. Then I said what clan are you from, the Catholic school girl clan?" cuz it was a typical red tartan youd expect to see at St Trinians!

Anyway he started swearing and getting angry, luckily he was mid stream so I just legged it!

Back to the OP, I wouldnt wear a kilt unless I was scottish.

Ask her about it and see if she has anything particular in mind. If she doesn't you could always just look at different tartans and find out what you like. If other people in her family are wearing kilts you could always wear the same tartan?
