OK so just for clarification, when Freesync drop out of it's range, it will switch to standard vsync (so things like imput lag would be sure to follow)...but for Gsync when you say it will continue to work below the range, what does actually meant in terms of looking at the monitor when the frame rate is 25fps on a Gsync enable monitor vs conventional monitor without vsync enabled...does it offer any benefit in being smoother?
 
My only annoyance is that now I have a very expensive monitor that ties me into only buying NVIDA graphics cards in future.

I agree fully. I was looking at a couple of R9 Fury cards yesterday when I all of a sudden remembered that I would need a Freesync monitor >.<

The problem is I love my Swift so much! I am stuck with green team :/ Not the end of the world, just a bit annoying!

G-Sync goes as low as 30 FPS, anything lower will be affected by tearing.
I don't see it as a problem, why would you play at lower than 30 anyway.

Great write up Scotti....once you go G-Sync you never go back...

I have the ROG Swfit and love it...my next monitor will be an IPS 4K monitor to pair with my 1440p ROG Swift though....but I want one with an HDMI 2.0 plug so I can connect my 4K Sky sports box to it (when that becomes available)...

A lot of ifs and maybe in that statement...any news on when we might see more 4K G-Sync monitors on the market?
 
Jebus my Swift must be old now too :rolleyes: I still love it. It confuses me how people hold the fact that it's a TN panel against it. Primarily because TN fulfills all of the design objectives of a gaming orientated panel better than an IPS every could. And secondly, oh my god is it a great TN. For me nice deep even blacks are more critical than perfect whites and colors during moving imagery and the TN delivers better than similar IPS's i've seen. I can understand why an IPS would make a better all-round monitor however, it does feel like a monstrous effort has been made to redeem TN's shortcomings with the Swift.

Until a gaming OLED comes along, I think i'll be keeping it. The density, resolution and G-Sync are perfect. Having said that I would go for a cheeky Ultrasharp 32 on the side, if the price every came down to anything that could remotely be described as cheeky.

Interesting that you mention the stuttering from v-sync causes motion sickness.
I experience motion sickness relatively badly i.e. can't look sideways out a car window or feel sick, and games with a low field of view are a definite no-go (damn you half life 2).
But I've been using v-sync for pretty much my entire pc gaming life and never experienced any motion sickness that I would attribute specifically to v-sync.
I also don't experience any noticeable stutter or input lag when using v-sync, which are common complaints of the feature.
As soon as I turn v-sync off, I get tonnes of tearing which I can't stand, so I've always had it on 100% of the time.

Interesting that you say you prefer 1440p + Gsync over 4k. I was kind of saving up for a 4k setup. I mean I quite like 24" 1080p 144Hz at the moment, wonder if upgrading to 27"/1440p/gsync would be worth it instead of getting a 4k 60Hz screen..?

I'd always take a TN over IPS for gaming, cos motion blur annoys me a lot.
 
You have the trade off between high resolution or high refresh, personally I'd go 1440/144 and if you have the power, pile on the dsr scaling feature :)

100% agree.

I moved to a swift from a Dell U3011. My love for quality IPS panels did cloud my judgement a little and make me hesitant to change but the benefits for gaming massively outweigh the colour accuracy advantages of IPS.

In hindsight I was just being a snob and using an IPS panel for gaming is a stupid idea considering the quality of decent TN at the moment.

That applies to the colour depth advantage of the IPS and the response time advantage of TN. You won't feel short-changed whichever panel you choose.

true, whereas with gsync on the swift you can switch between 60Hz and 144Hz and the difference is alarming.
 
Bought my Swift 3 months ago now and paired it with a Zotac 980ti. Was nervous about getting a TN but this monitor is amazing. The only problem with the viewing angles is looking from below the screen. When I lean back in my chair the screen goes dark, but this is easily compensated by just tilting the monitor. Probably more of an issue with my posture rather than the screen.

I've come from a PVA panel (the old 24" DGM OCUK one which has served me well) and the images look incredible on the swift.

Didn't really want to tie myself into green team (been red since 5850), but GSYNC seems to be miles ahead of FREESYNC.
 
With lottery that is Acer quality, would it be better to with the ROG swift. Sadly ill be buying in france so wont have ocuk superb customer service, ill be dealing french customer is always wrong mentality.

Itll be used mainly for gaming, but i do CAD during the day, colour reproduction isnt ia real requirement, i just want the chance of recieving better quality product. Will be using 780ti until the hof watercooled edition 980ti is in stock. Play mainly D3 and Witcher 3.
