Hello,

The other day i got back home from work and i turned my pc on, then suddenly i heard the cputemp alarm go off as the temperature went sky high 90c, naturally i turned my pc off, i assumed it had to be the cooler related problem as the temp went up so fast. So installed the stock cooler that came with my i7 2700k. And then pc would start for a sec and die, meaning i could see the cpu fan, motherboard's lights and psu fan as well as graphic card's fans begin to spin and then would stop in 1sec as if there is no power. Then i looked into the cpu's socket and i saw a scratch sort of bent pin.. my recklessness caused it i believe.

So my question is, is it possible for the cpu socket scratch to prevent my pc from turning on? or it could be entirely something else? and could it be that scratch ruined my motherboard?

Advice and info is very welcome.

I apologize for the size of pictures and their quality, i hope i didn't do anything against the forum's rules.

The cooler I've been using was Antec Kúhler H2O 620 Series 4 CPU Watercooler.

cpu should be ok,but bent pins means cpu wont work till they are all aligned like the rest

you could grab a cheap z77 board upto you

Are'nt GB the only ones who will repair boards with bent pins. Worth raising an RMA, if your board is still under warranty.

asus z77 v pro

k2 mount doom cooler,i don't know how tall you ram is it might affect which cooler you can use

there are cheaper coolers but not upto date on those

@Idleman yeah they will fix it but will charge you idk till you ask

Have you tried straightening the pins? It isn't borked yet. I've stragtened a far worse mess in a far more awkward socket before (2011) and the board lived to fight another day. :)

I used a steady hand, a bright, direct light source, and a pin.

It isn't a high value board though, must be worth the risk for a £40 replacement. *shrug*

The one I did was a Rampage IV Extreme. I was sweating with fear. :p

even worse on an asus board

their rma and customer service hate you with a passion, bent pins is a no no

yes they fixed mine free but board was in warranty

it was a x58 ud5 board

if you have the skill and a steady hand then you'll pull them back into shape with a large magnifying glass and a fine sewing needle, just don't mess with them too much as they fatigue and snap off without warning
