Hi all, I've just built a new PC, and I've noticed that after about 10 mins of gaming the screen starts to ripple :S I've no idea why and how so I'm in need of help lol, also it doesn't seem to do it on low settings/older games.

The card is a Ati hd 3850. obv u will need more details just as away, and merry xmas.

This is where i've no idea, it's a 450 PSU, and the cards about 80-90.
By ripple it's rather hard to explain, it's the type you would get from splashing water lol, but in straight lines shortly apart if that makes any sense ><

Could be a too low refresh rate, make sure it's 60hz or more.

Do you tab out a lot? it could be that changing between 2d and 3d profiles when you alt-tab is making the drivers forget the game's preference.

Can't be 100% but it sounds to me like you're getting screen 'tearing'.
You usually get this when your FPS in-game is higher than your monitor's refresh rate. Used to get it in CS 1.6 a lot when I was playing at 100fps on a 60Hz refresh rate.
Have you got vertical sync switched on? Check your graphics card's advanced settings.

Cheers.

This may sound a little strange but if your graphics card has a cooler that blows hot air out the back of your system you may have the problem i had with my x1900.

Whenever i used to game for a long period of time my VGA cable would some how move due to the heat coming from the back of the machine, this would then move the DVI to VGA adapter and the screen would go strange colours or "ripple" like you've described.

Tighten all the connections as much as possible to see if that helps, if that doesn't help then its most likely down to tearing that russ0r mentioned

Turn your refresh rate up to 70Hz, then look at your desktop and it's still crystal clear, load css for example. If it's still rippling then find the command [fallen out of my head] and set it in advanced launch options.

Nah i don't normally tab, could it be overheating? or maybe not enough power consumption? and no black it's not like that.

Here's my vsync settings russ.

Also when it happens, after i close the game after about 20 secounds it stops, and to explain the effect a bit more, when i look at text it looks to be flicking as apposed to more of the rippe movement.

Basically I wanna try and sort it, or narrow it down to what hardware could be the issue so i can RMA it :(
