Hello.

I bought a new motor yesterday, a 205 1.8 TD 'Mardi Gras'.

The bodywork is in a very good condition for it's age and so is the interior but there are a few little problems on the mechanical and electrical side of things.

First of all I have to floor the throttle for it to come on boost. Should it be doing that? I was expecting it to be more like the 306 DTurbo but faster because of it's weight but it seems to be the slowest car i've owned so far.

So I'd like to put extra fuel into it before boost by adjusting the boost compensator screw like I did on the 306 if that's possible and maybe later on up the boost and fuelling. I'll be ordering a replacement 'performance' air filter for it to let it breath a little better too.

The second thing is maybe suspension or engine mount related i'm not entirely sure. The bloke I bought it from reckons it's the anti-roll bar bush which he's sending across in the post when he gets it, so we shall see about that one.

But I think it may be the engine mount because it has knocked when changing gear and when I turn off the engine it knocks.

And one other problem. The offside brake light will not work, I've tried a new bulb and cleaned the connection but it still doesn't want to work. Any ideas on this one? Also the offside spot light won't work either...could this be related to the brake light - bad earth?

Screw mod jokes not wanted, I just want a little more ooomph low down the range without having to boot it!

Thanks in advance! :)

Oh yeah. Other mods planned:

GTi brakes
Stiffer shocks and maybe lower it slightly (just a lil bit, maybe 15mm?)

I remember a guy from PGAC called galv had one of these for a bit of a giggle and got something like 130 bhp out of it with minor mods and bits from scrappies for pennies, I think he's now got a site called the derv doctor, have a looksie...

You might laugh at this but I have found sometimes giving a tap on the outside of the lights can bring poor connections in pugs back to life. Worth a try ;)

Yeah, I had a little wiggle around with it - fitted my 100w bulbs :D

I had a 205 before my last car and had the same problem but got it working but this one doesn't want to work at all, and it's not rusted up like the last one was.

Yeah me too mate, GTi next year hopefully. :)

Checked derv doctor, he/they want £120 for a tune, not bad really but I can do it myself for nothing.

I'm quite worried that I'm going to be using more fuel than I should because I really do have to put the pedal to the carpet and I'm almost 100% sure I shouldn't need to.

I have a 205 GRDT 1.8 :)

I love it, the Turbo on it is ace, ive had it since i started driving and its perfect :)

Could do with a bit more low end grunt though, mine is quite slow to pick up, then it flys when the turbo kicks in,

EDIT : How much did she set you back ?

It cost me enough. :)

Do you find that there is hardly any pedal travel?

If I hold mine at say half throttle it won't boost till I floor it which is rather odd. I shall check out the boost hose later on when I can be bothered. :p

i have that lump in my rover. you should feel boost starting to come in around 2k, and should by really getting somewhere by 3-3.5k.

below 2k tho, it's painfully, frighteningly slow.

Saytan, mine doesn't have a rev counter lol! I keep going to look for it and end up reading the damn time lol.

It's nothing like my 306 where I could hold the throttle stready and wait for it to boost. :(

No way did he just buy a 205 for that.

You're quite right, I didn't.

Please try not to derail my thread, thank you. :)

I'll try out some of the old injector cleaner stuff though I'm not holding my breath on the stuff.

I get lots of boost at 45 mph in 3rd gear, its the overtaking gear imo :p

My engine has 204,700 Miles and is still going strong, i have another engine to drop staight in mine when it fails, i was considering trying to get a 306 TD Engine for mine, but i dont think it will fit :(

How did you manage to get him to let you have it for half his asking price?

Best thing to do is get yourself registered on http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/ and ask there - these guys will know if its normal, and if it isnt, what you need to do to fix it :)

lolol

Were only trying to figure out the going price for the car, no need to get uptight about your therad.

Mine doesn't boost in 3rd at 45mph, well it does but you have to wait quite a while.

I think my speedo may be out too because of the larger wheels, would it be reading over or under?

Dunno about that, mine has 15" Wheels i think, but they are wider than the standard ones,

My car also understeers very badly on roundabouts, but thats expected due to the huge lump sitting under the bonnet lol

Mine is also odd, sometimes it boosts very quickly and other times its slow, i can sit behind a car and just touch the pedal and it pulls like a train sometimes, othertimes its just sloooww

EDIT : Add me to msn if you want, Email is in trust :)
