SD37P2 - Are they any good?

As an old fart I remember boot discs for Doom and Ultima, so yes, I am still on XP, took a year to get 95, got 98 on SE and XP on SP2 so Vista.... another 12 months maybe.

Does that 8800GTX obscure the PCI-E slot?

I was going to say "obviously", but I need to bear in mind you may not be familiar with the layout :)

so a pci card will not fit, and if you intended to fit a second gtx then the PSU would probably throw a fit :)

edit - d'oh, more likely to be a crossfire solution, but you ge the idea

Have you tried overclocking more?

How hot is the cpu loaded?

I've managed to max out the 6600 with the shuttle bios [bios goes to 350, but pci bus craps out over 320 ish], I tried to overclock the gtx but thought better of it as the gpu tends to run a bit hot at stock anyways and I'm not one for max fans and suicide runs for 3dmarks :)

I'd be lying if I said I remember what temps are like so would need to check when I get home

as a side note I did get my e4300 to 3.6 gig in the shuttle using clockgen and a +0.15v increase in vcore

Hmmm so if I wanted a wireless network card, it wouldn't fit because a dual slot gpu card would obscure the single 1xpci-e slot?

you could always get the shuttle wifi adapter? that just connects to onboard USB headers, so is effectivly a USB wifi adapter, but still id imagine its still pretty good?

I hadn't seen that PN18 wifi adaptor. The last one I had seen was only for the G5's... That could be quite good then, would save using up a slot.

or get a usb wireless solution, and get a usb header to female usb adaptor much like the Shuttle solution [tucked away inside] but a damn sight cheaper, you are also not limited to the 54g format

e.g. we just bought two netgear wg111t adaptors for remote location solutions at work, and if you are using a netgear router with 108 your laughing

Very nice. 3.6GHz isnt shaby at all, I will be very pleased with that.

If I do get the shuttle which by the looks of things I will be, I would be putting a E4300 in there. Nothing fancy with the gpu so i hope the extra power that I saved will be keeping the cpu stable at overclocks.

good choice, but make sure you set enuff juice in the bios for cpu vcore and set chipset voltage to 1.65, there are also another few things to disable in bios like speedstep and the C1E function, Shuttles own xpctools also works but it only went to 360 fsb IIRC, and I knew there was much more left in the chip.

I currently run an e6600 in my shuttle just for stability and quietness, but the 4300 is planning a coup I think :)

Yea, dont worry I'l give it some juice :p

I did a while back with my 3800+ Venice in a shuttle, managed to get it stable @ 2.9Ghz 24/7 nice and quiet, but saying that, it was a 'special' cpu ;) Holds the WR for any venice... just under 3.9GHz.

Keep us posted on the build Frank, I'm becoming a Shuttle enthusiast.

37P2
E4300
2* 320GB 7200rpm drives (contemplating RAID 0 but not entirely sure)
2GB 6400 DDR2
DVD RW
X1900 Master card
Was hoping for a TV tuner card to fit in, but reading this I think I will have to go usb stick

Hope to be building this weekend, will create a thread when all parts arrive etc

I have 2 Raptors in RAID 0 and they are quite nippy. I originally had them in mirroring and was less than impressed. The only thing that worries me is data loss if 1 drive fails, so I do a DVD backup once a week or so of work in progress.

Edit; I suppose I could use the external SATA port and get an external HD for the wee beastie? (a rare lightbulb moment!!)

Best Shuttle Ive had so far.
I have no complaints about it at all, bar the limitations any shuttle system will have, but I can live with not having more PCI slots :)

Someone mentioned it not having a PS2 port for a Keyboard, that made me giggle. So glad they dont put that kind of rubbish in it anymore.
PS2 has died with beta-max and floppy grandpa ;)

There's a slightly shabby piccy of mine at the start of this thread, you can just see the drives underneath the 2 watercooling thingies. Obviously it's just a work in progress at the moment but I've squeezed to Sapphire 1950XTX's in, though I had to cut the brackets down.

Here's a different piccy:

The 3rd drive if you wanted one, fits in the floppy slot I think, though I've got a floppy in there for the SATA Drivers when installing XP. Though StephenB is right you are probably better off leaving the top rear drive bay out and using the floppy slot, since there are 2 small fans behind it.
