anyone know if the problems on the ST2000DM001 seagate 2tb hd are fixed now? ive been reading about clicking noises when it spins up and failing with 3 platters or something?
i see OC has just got them back in stock which means they will have the newest version right with the newest firmware?

No clicking noise with my ST2000DM001-1CH164. I used that as an OS drive for around 18 months, no clicking at all. Currently has 15,090hrs on it and it's still running perfectly (runs 24/7).

Now my ST3000DM001-9YN166 had clicking noises every 10mins when I had it, sounded terrible. A firmware update (CC4H) fixed that issue a long while back, I think that was also supposed to fix any clicking noises on the 2 TB but mine was fine. That drive currently has 20,405hrs on it, also runs 24/7 and is running perfectly.

I just bought a new ST2000DM001 to replace an old external Samsung F1 1TB that has 41,000hrs on. This one also runs very quietly.

I would have thought so. My mate bought one that had this problem 2 years ago and replaced with one that did the same. He installed it and it still is working fine. I have used hundreds of them with little to no issues.

Nah its still clicking on startup but functions perfectly. He isn't bothered. Like I said I have not had this issue and I use those particular drives daily.
