Hi, i have a couple of questions. I'm just wondering if anyone had an opinion on wheher Seagte's NL35 range of drives are worth the extra money?

I have come accross two drives in this range (400GB), any opinions on which drive to go for? I have found:

ST3400620NS
ST3400832NS

Thanks

Phil

I've just had a wee look on the Seagate site but they're not listed under the NL name (they were a month or so ago) but it looks like they've been rebranded as Barracuda ES drives. They're kind of equivalent to WD's RE range, same basic design as the desktop drives but enhanced motors, bearings etc optimised for 24/7 operation.

What's odd is that the figures don't suggest it, the Anuallised Failure Rate for the ES drives is twice that of the 7200.10s although the ES figure is for 24/7 whereas the 7200.10 isn't stated.

Unless you're planning on running them (working not just idling) 24/7 then I'd be tempted to stick with the 7200.10s.

What sort of price premium is there on the one's you're looking at?
