I need to return a hard drive to seagate in coventry as it has bad sectors and is failing the short dst test.

Has anyone had any experiences with seagate's RMA?

RMA'd a drive with them, can't remember how long it took to get a replacement as it was quite long ago, imagine I would have remembered if it was a particularly long time.

Before the hard disk would fail the short dst and bad sectors were found when running chkdsk.

I zero filled the drive and there now no more bad sectors and it passes the short dst.

RMA it or not?

RMA'd four drives with seagate and havent had any problems, turnaround is usually a week. Coventry seems to be the place where all the drives go before shipping to holland, cant be 100% sure tho...

RMA'd quite a few drives to seagate, they seem very very quick, Rma'd a drive to Maxtor and Seagate on the same Monday, both drives arrived the next monday :)

What sort of package did you folks use?

I have a cardboard box with foam and an ESD cover that I could package the hard drive in.

Sounds about right m8! Seagate boxes are medium sized with an ott thickness of foam inside. The drive looks lost inside. Be carefull with those small oem boxes that some retailers send drives with. My samsung's came in those things but im sure they arent proper samsung approved... unless anyone knows different?

I can remember it saying on the seagate website drives not sent in the packaging they specify won't be rma'd.
A box with foam. NOT bubblewrap.
