Hi,

About a year or so ago I bought a Seagate hard drive (it wasn't from OCuK) - it was part of a bare bones system.

Recently it failed, causing us to lose some pretty important work ( I know, I'm stupid nothing was backed up). I contacted a data recovery specialist company who informed the drive was refurbished and had been previously repaired using poor quality parts, basically, it was bound to fail again.

I contacted the company I originally purchased the system from and they've basically told me to go away as it out of warranty. They also told me:

Unfortunately, after looking into this further, he is not willing to offer any compensation as the system is out of warranty and nowhere on the listing did it state that a new drive as opposed to refurbished drive would be used in the system builds that were offered at the time you placed the order.



To me, when I buy a new system it's just something you assume that the components within that system are also new.



Where do I stand here?



Honestly, last time I use any other company over OcUK, to save literally £26.

if its an ebay "listing", i dont think you have a leg to stand on, however if it is a company selling "new" systems, then i would say all parts should be new

It was bought direct from a local IT store (probably shouldn't name them), I picked up the goods myself

How long have you had the machine and how much did you pay?
Was it from a individual or a store?
Have you tried the serial on the seagate website?

It was a full system, cost ~£350.00 and from a full store. I'll have a look at he Seagate site now - good idea!

Also, I notice how OcUk clearly label similar items as "b grade" E.g. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BG-252-GI

There were no such markings on the company I bought this item from.

Are they claiming it only has a 12month warranty?

Yep in short. They're saying the warranty is a secondary issue. The point they're focusing on the most is the fact that they never stated the new computer I bought would contain new parts - that's the annoying bit. If I was to buy a brand new car, it;s a given that it would contain a new engine. Their logic is so flawed.

Have learnt my lesson, won't be using em again, will be leaving a negative reviews on the several review sites the company is signed up for and will stick with OcUK in the future.

Well it's like me buying say http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-246-OE from OCuK and finding it was full of refurbished parts :)

I did send them a very annoyed email and promised to leave bad reviews for them.

They did reply later later asking if I wanted a replacement harddrive lol - which I will take, but I'm never using them again. A company selling new system should not be using 2nd hand parts, without letting the customer know beforehand, end of. It's as simple as that.

Anyway, this is the last time I'm trying to save a few pounds by going elsewhere. All my PC stuff is coming from OCuK.
