Seat Toledos

I think we should start a poll and ask Fox to the do the honourable thing.

POLL: Should Fox give his 530i to his sister so that she can get to work in reasonable comfort?

I do wonder, actually. But then spending more doesn't neccesarily guarantee utter reliabilty, mind.

No but it saves you looking for that elusive bargain, anyway you know this already.

If you've got all the time in the world, are very fussy, and you are not up against any sort of time constraints, you can pick up that elusive bargain.

This time, I have all the time in the world.

Didn't she ruin the last car that he let her have?

Do you really think Fox could sit there and watch let his 530i go down hill? Really?

Toledo sounds ok, I would not dismiss a Bora or Leon either, while the Golf is indeed overpriced. To be honest I'd just look around and go for whatever you find that offers the most value for money.

They are rather noisy engines, but should last ages, be economical and you've got the "vag build quality" in terms of interior.

A VAG diesel seems to fit the bill, with the Toledo pretty much the best value.

Couple of random thoughts, Fiat Croma they are great value with decent engine, lots of space and leather? There are also some half decent 1.7CDTi Astras around.

No, thats why that car would last her for ever with Fox keeping on top of it for her :D

I read this with the voice of Hollywood trailers, amused me greatly. :D

I have a fantastic ability to see past my own personal preference when I'm giving advice to others. Hence VAG diesels fitted with the engine I possibly hate more than other in the world.

But there are some things I can't do. The Astra is one of them.

So general concencous is that provided you find a nice tidy one the Toledo (Or anything else in the same partyfrock) is not a bill generating machine from hell.

Excellent.

The only major problems I had came from under the bonnet.
It wasn't the engine block, but rather the poor quality pipes and clips that VW use.
They're not cheap to replace though.

They do like to leak though, so make sure you get the door seals redone if it does let in water.
Plenty of guides on seatcupra.net, which is an excellent resource in itself.

I would suspect the PD150 suffers from the same chocolate cam issues as the other marques it's used in, but I suppose that's an unlikely option anyway if you want a bargain priced car. Other than that the PD engines are pretty reliable, though they have all the refinement of an aged FX4 taxi cab running on three cylinders. They can suffer from the usual high mileage diesel issues; worn turbos, EGR valve problems, MAF sensors etc.

In general the usual golf Mk4 platform issues apply; suspension bushes, rubbish electric window regulators, occasional central locking problems etc.
