Second Harddrive Problems Please Help...

Right...
this keeps happening.
I turn on my pc log in and both internal hard drives are detected and i can access both. The problem is with the second one (media drive) it works for a while but then randomly it disappears and stops working.

also sometimes i will turn on my pc and it will be detected by the bioss but when windows etc. boots its gone.

Today i was just poking around and found this:

Also on occasion the hard drive will just hang during copying, deleting, moving etc. of files.

So anyone got any ideas whats going on?

Im not hugely tech savvy but i can follow instruction and have a general idea about things.

What type of drive is it and is it connected via IDE or SATA?

Its a 500gb Seagate.
Connected by SATA

edit:

I don't know if this will help or not.

motherboard is a Abit IN9 32X-MAX

the other hard drive (windows etc.) is a Samsung also connected by SATA (no problems with it as far as i know)

no updates?

ok well a new problem has occurred.
My pc begins to boot up all the information pops up and the bios thing beeps but it goes through the usual steps and then just stops at a black screen. any ideas?
