Announcement due Tuesday but some info below

Formula 1 is set to have two grands prix in the United States from 2013, with plans for a race around the streets of New Jersey expected to be confirmed as early as next week.

Although F1 is returning to the US for the first time next year with an event in Austin, Texas, Bernie Ecclestone has made no secret of the fact that he would like another event in the country - with his preferred location being New York.

Ecclestone told AUTOSPORT last year: "It's happening. We are talking to them and trying to do our best. Let's see what happens."

High level sources have revealed that the plans have now reached fruition, and an announcement is expected to be made by New Jersey governor Chris Christie and other local politicians next week.

It is understood that the New Jersey GP will take place in June 2013, so it can be a back-to-back race with Canada, which will then leave the Austin event to keep its place at the tail end of the schedule to tie up with the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Last year, the Mayors of Weehawken and West New York revealed that they were in the preliminary stages of talks with a group of investors, led by former YES TV Network executive Leo Hindery Jr, to hold a grand prix in the area from as early as 2013.

It is not confirmed where the track will be, but it is likely to run along the banks of the Hudson River - using the waterfront and the iconic Manhattan skyline as a backdrop.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday that a press conference has been scheduled at Port Imperial in Weehawken for next Tuesday, where an announcement could be made.

Hmm could this be another Valencia..?

Im all for more American -continent - races (although three is probably the max F1 should have, before it gets too US based) , was at the first race at Indy all those years ago, although to be a real street race it needs to be tight and twisty (which the US dont do with their wide avenues and rigid block structures)

Doubt the track will be anything special.

But I don't care in this instance, F1 needs America and it doesn't get any bigger than New York.

Can only be good for F1.

Street track, does that mean we'll have a driver challenge with little run offs.
Which track would go though.

It's why despite lack of overtaking I like Monaco. It's a challenge to drivers with harsh penalties for a mistake and a season should have several very different tracks and challenging in different ways. Far to many are to similar.

Doubtful, more likely we'll just get another processional borefest like Valencia that no doubt rakes in a load of money for Bernie but is bloody boring to actually watch.

Long uphill and downhill section and plenty of fast sections and point and squirt corners. Total length around 5km

With these new street circuits, its a shame Birmingham got knocked on the head after a few years. I remember enjoying the racing there.

F1 needs America... Though the reason eludes me, as F1 seems to survive perfectly well when we don't race there.

Any way, I thought the Americans were bored of Indycar racing, so why on earth would they want to watch a bunch of weedy F1 cars drive in single file through a car park?

Still, at least Bernie gets to rake in some more cash before he pegs it.

I think that layout looks pretty exciting, the bottom right corner (carpark) does seem a little boring. Bin Valencia for it, even if it's a dive it'll be an improvement on Valencia.

Lovely, a car park. Reminds me of Las Vegas. Stupid idea that was.

It's New jersey too. Oh joy.... New Yorkers are always depressed because the light at the end of the tunnel is New Jersey.

New Jersey. Home of Bon Jovi. Says it all really.

*I really don't like New Jersey...*

Am I the only person thinking that the car park would be a good place for the paddock etc?
