second x2 review

The Crysis results aside (bloody game) that's a lot of power, if it overclocks well it'll push ever further past *** Ultra (2 cores = more streams to clock etc).

I can't see how people are complaining, so far so very good.

looks promising, very promising for ATI... just need a few more reveiws / benchy's but my first impressions are "its a damn good card for the $$$"

thats what i said , cant understand what the problem is

The bit that has soured the card to me is the comments on it being very hot and very noisy.

Not the performance (as that will improve with drivers).

as i said , that is an insane amout of power if they come in at 250 to 300 and as you say , thats standard how much leg room will it have if overclocked?

Doesn't look good there ^ Call of Duty 4 being the only major gain, its beat in Crysis, beat in Bioshock, and only 6fps ahead in Call of Juarez, just shows you how good Nvidia are that, and how far away they are from AMD, AMD just can't compete with them, Nvidia's on another level, thats 2x cards V's only 1x of theirs, and this is all they can muster, but hopefully with the date now 28th the new drivers that they are working on will improve it a bit more, as Its not worth it for me, i only game at 1280x1024, so was hoping to get this and a bigger screen, but the performance increase doesn't justify it.

I love the spin put on this:

"its beat in bioshock" its beat by 4fps but that doesn't matter, its still beat regardless of how much its by. But when its ahead by 6fps its "only" 6fps ahead. :o

gonna wait for hardocp to review this card since they do fraps runs and i want to see the chart on how this card performs. the minimum framerate is what im interested in.

Its not good enough though is it, as i said its 2x cards Vs 1x, it looks laughable tbh, Nvidia are just to good for them.

Two GPU's on one board then, the fact that it performs not much better than a GTX which is well old tech, is a bit embarrassing, especially as they have to bang two GPU'S together to even compete with it.

its physically a single card, its seen by the pc as a single card also, this is the way all gpus will be in the future i reckon, if its cheap like £250 cheap then i'd say its worth it for sure as the drivers will only get better and better much like the 8800 did.

Exactly what im saying, you would thing 2x GPU's would thrash a single GPU thats well over a year old, it is embarrasing, hopefully though as i said, the new drivers they are sorting for it for proper release on the 28th will improve it a bit more.

Id love to know what reviews some of you people have been looking at, is it like just pick and choose the tighter benchmarks and totally ignore the benchmarks where the x2 is clearly excelling over the competition? Example cod 4 @ 1280x1024 where the x2 is near 40fps faster, yeah clearly barely any advantage over the gtx...

I'm really not impressed at all, sure it pulls ahead, and granted these are early benchmarks from less reputable sources; but still, shouldn't ATI be trouncing nVidia by now?

I mean, it's a dual GPU card that can only just beat a single card that is based on year old tech? That's just not good enough, I wouldn't buy one of these out of principal more than anything, despite the fact that it is marginally (10% overall?) faster than nVidias offerings. I mean, how long until nVidia release something that demolishes this? This thing should kill anything nVidia currently has out, and the fact that 2 GPU's on one board can only just beat out the 8800 cards proves how bad the 38xx chips really are, no matter how you look at it.

Obviously, this is 50% based on not-so-reputable reviews and 50% speculation, so we'll see in the following weeks how the card really is, so far though, not impressed.

No your right, there is a few games where it is excelling, but those games are few and far between, it should be excelling by over 40fps in absolutely everything for being 2x GPU's Vs a single GPU, but it aint, when you look at the bigger picture, its a few frames faster than the Ultra in lots of games, few slower in some, and thrasing it death in the odd one.

Agreed, if thats all they can muster over a single GPU, the 9800 GX2 which will be 2x GPU's like this, should absolutely **** all over it from a great height.

It is essentially 1 card mate takes up around the same space as a gtx and beats it and also beats an ultra. Look at what happens on those graph's as the resolution goes up even in crysis the ultra is pegged back.

You're not wrong, but that would only benefit someone who plays CoD4 exclusively. When I buy a new video card I need to be certain I'm going to get a definite and noticable increase in all games before I click the buy button.

Personally, I'm never filled with confidence when a new card excels in only a handful of games and gets beaten in the rest.
