Strange, I work for an accounting firm and the team I'm in saw info about a project a client was working on for the military and I've never had any security checks. We were just told not to tell anyone about what we saw but I get that all the time, especially when working on football clubs.

Maybe it depends on the type data entry.

Btw, yes accounting firms do more than punch numbers. The reason we saw that particular document was to see if the company could get capital allowances on the R&D they were doing.

I'm quite happy to state that until June last year I had the level of clearance that allowed me to control the movement of NATO submarines in UK waters. I'm not pretending that I know any secrets, that I have access to any documents that I'm going to pretend are important, that I can't discuss what my role was or anything similar.

well thanks for the personal attack. First sign of a true ********. As you know *** all about what I do I think you should butt out. Think what you like, it means nothing to me, although I can say you are totally wrong.

Wow, what an important job you had playing a computer game.

I don't quite think im making it clear that I have had security drummed into me. Im not so important in the organization for whom I work, but I can bet my next pay packet that its a higher responsibility than yours. I think you just proved you aren't responsible.

Theres no way any action will be taken against you for posting what level clearance you have on a message board.

Obviously as long as you make no mention of where you work or what you actually do.

I'm not sure if there's anything against it, but in this 'age of terror' people are often advised not to lest they put themselves at risk. Scaremongering, no doubt, but that's what they're told.

My father and one of his friends from his defence days are who i am talking about. Both of whom now run their own companies, so I think they are quite safe :D

In fact, i have said far less than my dad's friend says on his company website.

You only have to look at that crappy car in his sig to realise he sells insurance door to door and spoke to someone who *might* have been in the army.
 
Don't know what the big deal is to be honest.

I honestly didn't know there were different levels of security clearance, nor did I know about this official secrets act.

All I know in my own career is that a few of my jobs (one for a fencing company in Doncaster) required that I have 'security clearance' to enter MOD property, and likewise I needed 'security clearance' to do work on an RAF base.

When I asked what this was in my naive "ooooo I feel very important" little mind I was simply told the police did a search on my name for any criminal offences and if nothing came back I was 'good to go'.

So whether or not I'm now gonna be carted off to the stocks or locked in the tower of London or my family taken out with radioactive material in their meals I really don't know!

But.

No big deal really, just means you're not a naughty person!
 
its been over a year since i left there so it's expired then. Is it easier/quicker to get cleared a second time ?

I wasnt aware of that, not had SC yet, not worthy lol...

Still, to be honest, i knew a few contractors who have had SC and higher, and i dont know anyone who has been refused one of them yet.

Higer the grade, better the pay :) nice one.

No ones answered my question. where can i find out about my security clearance, when i was cleared, when it run out, what they found etc ?

Phone the cabinet switchboard and ask? They'll at least tell you where to ask if they can't answer.
