Seeking advice on my first PC Build (for music DAW, VR, MS Flight Sim 2020)

Hi guys. Only me again. Well, to quote the famous line from Frankenstein: "It's Alive" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xos2MnVxe-c&ab_channel=crawlfan

And she is ready (I hope) for the Great Windows Install, shortly followed by Drivers 4 You.

Have to say the Define 7 is a lovely case, especially for my purposes (don't need lots of lights but want lots of USB ports, solid build with sound deadening etc). I bought a second 140mm fan for the front (Be Quiet brand, so its 2 x 140mm at front, 1 x 120mm at back, and the big 140mm on the CPU cooler) so hopefully it'll keep reasonable temperatures. For the PWM Be Quiet fan I used the PWM connection on the m/board that would otherwise be used for a water pump I think, so hopefully I can use PWM driven cooling profile in BIOS to control that. I was amazed when it lit up first time, have to admit to being nervous about that. And although lack of space for cable tidying was one criticism of this case in reviews, I found it fine.

So my questions now are about where to purchase Windows safely, legally and inexpensively. Also which flavour of Windows 10 to buy ( Home, Professional, should I update to the very latest issue etc). If anyone has any pointers on that I'd be really grateful. Also, advice on drivers. The X570 Tomahawk Motherboard comes with a DVD with drivers on it but the new PC doesn't have a DVD (though I have a USB connectable one if need be). But anyway is it not best just to go onto the MSI website and download and install latest drivers from there. With the The Gigabyte 2070 Super am I right in saying my best bet is to install GeForce Experience from NVidia and let it do whatever it needs to do? And regarding sequence, I'm guessing:

1) Install Windows
2) Install M/Board drivers
3) Install GeForce Experience and let it interrogate system and update as it sees fit.

Any help on any of this would be much appreciated and thank you again so much for all the help that has got me to this happy point.

Thanks again.

Mike

Windows 10 key can had from anywhere for £10 theese keys are legit and are usually emailed to you, They are oem keys.

After you install windows get the latest drivers from the motherboard website and install. Then the same for the Nvidia gpu drivers.

Geforce experience is bloatware some people enjoy it but i personally just install the graphics drivers, try it if you want you can always uninstall it.

You also have motherboard utilities like ryzen master which can be handy I would try it see how you get on .

Great, thanks++ again and I'll follow your advice. What's the limitations of an OEM key - does it mean it can only be used with a new build like mine and must stay with it? I've read some scary stories about people being ripped off with cheap licenses that didn't work (oem keys being sold and re-sold etc). Should I worry about that and/or are there particular sites/vendors you might point me to?

Not sure to be honest but check out reviews of the sits you buy from.

Quick update. All has gone well with Windows 10 install and getting Oculus Rift S VR to work, get all my recording studio plugins installed etc. BUT, I've started to have real problems with wireless keyboard and mouse cursor freezing, stuttering, being veyr slow etc. At times it is fine, but then it will start playing up. I have two different wifi keyboard/mouse sets (Logitech and Dell) and both are having issues, though both work fine with my other PC and my laptop. Googling and youtubing reveals its a problem other people have had, but so far all the various tips they suggest has not fixed the problem (I've uninstalled the mouse/unplugged dongle/let it reinstall, I've checked GPU driver is up to date under Device Manager, I've done various other bits, tied different USB ports, etc etc but no change). If anyone recognises this problem and has any advice I'd be really grateful as until I sort it the PC is pretty much unusable. Thanks in hope! Mike p.s. do you think maybe I should start a new post for this problem so it gets picked up better by readers?

Yes all sorted. Not even certain how but it partly seemed to settle anyway (Windows is a mysterious beast ha ha) and also making sure the usb dongle was closer (using an extension lead) to the keyboard and mouse). Bit strange as the old pc was less fussy but....the new PC is now working fab. Amazing how my DAW audio/studio demands can still test its limits though - i think its because everything has to be handled in one stream in real time, and sound effects can be cpu hungry.
