Segate 7200.10 500GB

I've got 2 in RAID 1 with what looks like the clear glue and they are VERY Loud, but quick.

Luck of the draw I think as I had 2 x 320Gb Seagates before and they were whisper quiet.

Should have said on my earlier post, I have 2 x Seagates and 2 x WD on the same Intel controller in RAID 1.

The WD are a lot quieter, although not as fast as the Seagates.

Both are good drives though.

Oh, I wondered why everyone was 'specing' people those WD drives :)

Are there any HD Tach comparisons between the Seagate 7200.10 and the WD drives?

Which is faster out of these two?:

500 Gb Western Digital WD5000AAKS Caviar SE16
500 Gb Seagate ST3500630AS Barracuda 7200.10

A review said the following:

If you are looking for a very quiet and thermally advantaged high capacity drive then the Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD3200KS should be on your short list. The drive also offered very good game play performance and was able to make a strong showing in the general business application benchmarks.

Have a look at Post #51 (Seagate 500GB) and Post #55 (WD 500GB).

I have 2 x WD 500 AAKSs, in HDTach they give an Average read of 71.6MB/s, also have 2 x 320GB 7200.10s, in HDTach they give an Average read of 66.3MB/s, I would also think that there would be no difference in Average read values between the 320GB and 500GB 7200.10s.

Seagate have a 5 year warranty and WD a 3 year. :)

Nice, thanks for that.

Seeing as they do have a higher read rate & a lot of people have been recommending them recently I think I might go for one :)

It's a shame the WD only has 3 years warranty instead of Seagates 5 :(

i've just gota 7200.10 320gb

before i had a WD Cavalier 250gb

And its a lot louder. So much louder i'm tempting selling it.

I'm gunna go back to WD for sure,
