Self checkouts

I specifically used a self check out when buying some jonnies the other day to avoid interacting with staff.

My cunning plan was foiled though as the packet was so light didn't register,so the machine kept loudly announcing 'place item in bagging area'

Had to call someone over to override it. Cringe.

Instead of going with NCR like the rest, Morrison's took the (presumably) cheap route and went with another manufacturer. They seem a lot more awkward to use.

Makes sense then.

They also (at my nearest branch) have them placed within open view of the entrance doors (sliding ones rather then the rotating that some Morrison's have). Any breeze will therefore travel straight into the shop and over the tills. This may be a contributing factor with the scale readings.

When they look at the condoms and then to you, just wink at them and say nothing. It always goes down well.

Are you 16 and shy? What's wrong with buying condoms? :p

I only ever buy 1/3rd basket of food so have only ever been served by staff a few times in my life. I only eat fresh food so have to go shopping 3-5 times a week. The shop is on my way home from work (I walk as it's only 10 mins) so it works out well.

If I have used a staffed checkout though I always get asked if I want help packing but never say yes - not least of all because it'd take longer. I pack faster than they scan as it just chuck it all in the bag as it comes.

I have always found them fine packing as I scan. It's either always fine (90%) or you just get one that gets confused with every single item and you have to ask staff to stand there while you scan it all or you'll be there ages.

except a look of jealousy if they are not getting any. Little do they know your only buying them for pranks XD

Only once has a server ever said anything to me about them. I went through the checkout with condoms and Game of Thrones Season 3. He simply said ''decent night planned then?' I have to admit that did make me chuckle.

'Can't wait to see where Littlefinger will end up next.'

I hate watching people trying to operate the self serve machines... Honestly, its pretty easy stuff but some people just cant do it.

Why can't someone invent microchips that go into the packaging of every item in the shop. You pick up what items you want, then just walk out of the shop. The sensor in the door detects the items you've taken, and then wirelessly debits your credit card or whatever.

It's the future!

rfid is used on somethings/places for stock mangement but what happens when someone sticks their goods in an RFID proof bag?

machine error is why they suck.

a fart will upset the scales on most of them and because the provided space is so small and you are forced to play jenga any slight movement in the tower will cause the scales to throw a fit.

It's obvious they are not designed for even half a basket of items although they are clearly ideal for people buying 4-5 things
