They seem to be everywhere at the moment.

On the one hand I can see how they would come in useful and when used properly can be pretty neat.

On the other hand, they do seem awfully self-indulgent and a lot can be said about the cultural narcissism that seems to be developing (think Kardassian).

To me, it seems as if they are a reflection of the times. In a world of noisy social-media where sheer numbers beat us down in to insignificance, it remains poignant that all we really wish to do is to connect with others and share our experience of this world. Enter the stick.

What's your take on them?

My mate has one for when he's out DJing, I want to take it off him and beat him with it.
He's also the sort of person that posts at least one picture of his ugly mug to FB every day without fail for no particular reason.

I refer to them as narcissisticks :D

I dont really buy into this whole "selfie" culture, yeah I have a couple with my friends (none of them are serious, just to have a laugh)

I cant see how (women in particular) have to take one everyday, my instagram/facebook feed is always full of them! I have no problem with the occasional ones as some of the girls I know are really cute :D its when its a constant stream that annoys me

Another one that really grinds my gears, is when people have a bath, they feel the need to put a photo of their legs in the bath on said social network sites.

(think Kardassian).
A culling of these types is in order.

Having been in the post a picture of yourself thread many times, pots and kettles spring to mind!

I'm clearly too old as this is the first I've heard of such a thing.

In any case it doesn't bother me, they're not hurting anyone so it's not worth getting in a twister about.

I saw someone using one of these at the Tower of London to take a "Poppy Selfie". The urge to insert the stick into its owner was almost overwhelming.

When I was at Ground Zero in June there were a few people taking Selfies, and a couple of them had these stick things!.

It upset me a great deal (I lost friends in the towers) and my wife had to calm me to stop me beating these people senseless with the sticks, or my shoes (which ever came to hand first)
