Selfie Sticks

The only time I've ever used a 'selfie stick' was attaching my go-pro to my ski pole to get some skiing footage, and then using said ski pole at a mountain rave that evening watching the Prodigy, to get some different footage. It seemed to work pretty well, but I would never consider getting one just to take random pictures of myself...

Yep. I've answered your question - care to answer mine? :-)

A remembrance of the 888,246 British servicemen killed keeping Europe free from tyranny isn't the correct place for mucking about pulling faces like a cat's bum.

Capturing your visit to the memorial via a selfie is fine. Acting like self-obsessed children isn't.

Whilst I do think they're silly, they come no where near the ridiculousness of people taking touristy photos with an iPad.

Always makes me laugh when I see that!...

I saw a woman trying to walk along the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge in Ireland holding her iPad out in front with one hand whilst filming or taking photos... I wanted her to stumble and drop it! :D

(does that make me a bad person?)

On the other hand, they do seem awfully self-indulgent and a lot can be said about the cultural narcissism that seems to be developing (think Kardassian).

Absolutely completely totally agree 100% (highlighted for emphasis).

Even the phrase 'selfie' drives me nuts, worse than 'photobomb' but only just.

If it wasn't for the sake of the local selling pages, which for me has replaced ebay, I wouldn't even bother with Facebook as it really is full of narcissistic nobodies that really need to get a life (perhaps that's a reflection on my friends and family!)

Far too many self-obsessed individuals that think they are some kind of celebrity in this world, only for some friends and family to turn into one of the same!!

I think they're a good idea if you want to get a picture as a couple; no need to hassle random passers by.

I'd love one for my girlfriend and I to use. There are so many pictures we've tried to take of us together when we go somewhere exciting, and they just end up as close up pictures of our faces because our arms aren't 2 metres long.

Nothing wrong with that.

Some people seem to be using them as course though.

This is what all to youtube vloggers use on their go pro's

My dad has got one for his NZ journey, and has been using it on his go pro whilst walking around

I can see the good side of it, gives you a better angle for camera views, and good if you want to extend it to reach those viewing places you cant normally get to, but walking around with one makes you look kind of weird :p

Whilst I can see the application of the "selfie stick" and it would indeed be useful for taking pictures of the myself and the missus, I can't help but feel my beautiful smile would be lessened by the dead eyed stare of a man who is acutely aware that he looks like a complete numpty.

The way I see it is that women are gonna take endless selfies anyway....These sticks enable them to include their body in the selfie...and that, my friends, is something i whole heartedly support.

Come the revolution when I'm exalted chairman prime i will build a selfie annihilation department that travels the globe executing anyone who's selfie has appeared on fb or twitter.

i don't care about the law if I ever saw someone with a selfie stick even if they are having fun I will kill them and I don't mean it in the moment, i would plan it, and brutally murder them in some way

You're cranky. Go have some fish-fingers.

The only time I've seen one put to good use was a guy who was snorkelling. He used it to get nice close-ups of the coral without having to dive down and potentially damage the reef if he got a bit wayward.

Then he instantly lost my respect when later that day I saw him on the beach taking a picture of the sunset using it like some kind of periscope. Take the camera off the damn stick man!
