Sell 4S in anticipation of 5?

I'll be upgrading the 4 as I normally upgrade every other year iPhone/iPad and handing the 4 on to someone in the family.

I thought about this because I try to stay on top of all the new iPhones and surely selling slightly earlier will save me some £££s.

However I came to the conclusion that I buy iPhones because I like them, and I use it everyday, what's the point not having one for 2-3 months every year just for £100-200.

To me not having that 2-3 months gap without the iPhone makes it worth while, I mean the whole point of getting one is to use it right?

The iPhone 5 is probably going to be the biggest change to the iPhone since the original one came out, so it's definitely worth lining it up.

I wouldn't sell my current phone early either, what's the point? You're without it for a while just to save £100~? That's not even remotely worth it.

You should expect:

  • A new design
  • A larger screen (and size in general)
  • Faster, more power efficient internals (Apple A6: 1Ghz dual core cortex A15 + SGX544MP2)
  • A bigger battery
  • Better optics
  • More changes to iOS 6 that are only available on the new iPhone; what we saw at WWDC wasn't all that exciting
  • Larger storage options, perhaps a new minimum storage of 32GB and 128GB max

I still can't understand whey people get so excited over a iphone.
Apple's approach to what's on their app store,& how users can tweak the operating system is too restrictive for me.

DefiantAsh, I'm also looking forward to Jelly Bean 4.1, been looking for the cheapest deal for Galaxy S III.

Surely the same applies to everything on this forum? Why would someone get excited over a processor, or a hard drive, or a video game, or insert electronic product here...

Why get excited about anything really, let's just all be miserable instead. ;)

Im still plodding on with the 3GS, the 5 cant come soon enough :(

Im still yet to see anything that makes me want to jump ship to Android though, all I hear from mates that have them is that it isnt restrictive, but at the end of the day, Im not really fussed that my icons are locked - I just want it to work. Plus, the reports of malware on the Android store and the mahoosive size of the newer handsets puts me off.

I have a 64gb 4s thinking about doing the same but I don't think I could go without my iPhone now :(
I did this a couple of updates ago and struggled with a basic phone until the new device was released. Never again.

Apple are now doing a CRU replacement (Customer Replacement Unit), where the old unit (in this case the virtually untouched, still wrapped warranty replacement refurb 4S that I had for two days) gets sent back to Apple, who then send out a brand new, boxed, cellophaned retail unit to me (why they don't do this in-store now I don't know, as that's what they did last time). Will not be upgrading; the loss is too big and I think it'll be for zero-gain.

If you have a 4S there will be NO reason to upgrade to the 5 when it comes out. The hardware will not be a big enough difference for you to notice.

You say this EVERY time there's a new product out or due out. Laughable as always.

The sheer fact that almost everything about the device could change would be classed as a big enough reason for most people... ;)

If it has a better battery, this alone would be worth the upgrade for me :p

Hate how you can't go more then a day without charging it. Though considering I'm at home at the moment and not at college by night it might only be 50% ish compared to like 15% as I'm not using it for music and stuff.

I have to completely agree here.

The 4S is an amazing phone, the best one i've ever had, but damn the battery sucks when you have 3G on and you're up and about a lot.

I've gotten home sometimes with around 10% or less from normal usage.

A better battery will be amazing.

I love my iPhone, don't get my wrong, but I fancy a change.

I loved my SGS2 before my iPhone, but this wiped it off the chalk board, more functionality for what I use, and the applications are pristine, well, the ones I use are anyhow.

I've tried finding a decent price on a SGS3, but thinking of holding out and see if the rumours/clarification of a iPad 7inch are true, which I will keep my iPhone and get that to accompany it.

I sometimes hate having a love for gadgets and tech :(

If I could find the S3 for £350 I'd buy it now. One of the main things I like is the ability to change the battery - it's such a small feature but a great one in my opinion. Others such as being able to put a memory card in it is also top of my list for a new phone.

If Robbos post was correct I'd still feel upset about it. Dual core processor really doesn't cut it nowadays. You can't exactly replace it and I don't think they'll go out of there way to allow us to replace a battery or chuck in a memory card.

So anyway - where did you get that S3 for that price? :)

Why not? It's the architecture that's important. There are dual-core processors available now and in the pipeline that outperform the quad-core ones in both performance and power consumption.

The S4 Snapdragon for example (found in the HTC One S).

Really hope they do something like this. My 16gb is always hovering around 1gb these days. It's almost 1-in,1-out:( 1080p video doesn't help matters either.

That's down to numerous reasons though - poorly optomised software, no support for the extra cores, overclocking (still possible on a phone), etc. Having dual core in an age whereby we are getting more and more cores per proc than ever before seems a little backwards. It's not neccessarily required but it's limiting. it's quite obvious, if optomised, that a like for like dual core vs quad core (i.e. same Mhz) the quad core will outperform it.

Having more cores available future proofs the phone somewhat. I can see what Apple have done and some people will praise the cleverness while other people will get annoyed. Locking the phone so that you can't easily change the battery, add memory, etc. is great from there point of view because if the battery fails then it's a new phone, if you want more memory then it's a new phone.

You have to remember that Apple are now behind the S3 in specifications and need to catch it up - I wouldn't want to buy an iPhone that's lower spec than a phone that, when the IP5 is eventually released, could have been in the market place for 6-12 months.
