Sell or keep - needs new gasket :(

As above, but by all means dont just assume it isnt the head gasket ;)

When a head gasket PROPERLY goes, you will know about it... I lost a few litres of coolant through the exhaust in a matter of minutes ;) The whole car became surrounded by fog...

Thats when the engine is fuabr'd!

I was sat in my rover 214 at a junction, when another one went past and the gasket just went. It was a fog machine from the exhaust as all the coolant got dumped.

I have great confidence that it will never happen to me....

according to the report i just got back from the garage:
"Investigate into temp gauge not working - traced fault to no collant circulation - replaced water pump and thermostat but still the same - tested headgasket after trying to clear airlocks and failed test - requires head removal"

he also noted:
"Rear subframe bushes perished, N/S/R brake binds slightly, r/flexible brake hoses perished, front flexibles begining to perish, exhaust in poor condition, engine misfires, front suspension soft and knocks badly"

hmmmmmmm. This thing had its mot in December an the guy says he didnt know how it passed...

When I took it to the Ford garage before here, all they noted was "suspect temp gauge" and said it would cost £88 to fix. Now ive taken it to a different garage, I have another report estimating £600 to replace head gasket!

Me thinks I need to go to another garage for a third opinion for sure!
