Seller wants courier to provide a QR code

I've not heard of this before, but GD please enlighten me.
I bought an item from an auction site and the seller initially wanted collection only.
In the end we agreed that I would organise a DPD courier to collect from his address.

The seller said he would like the courier to present a QR code to him so that the item is marked as collected.

I've not heard this practice before. My understanding is that the courier simply scans the printed shipping label (which I have emailed to the seller) and online tracking is updated as "collected".

Am I missing something here?

They basically want to treat the courier collecting the item the same as if you collected it in person - meaning that if the courier loses it or its not what you expected when you receive it there will be nothing you can do it about it.

Sure I get that's the basic idea. But how can I ask DPD to provide a service that's not part of their remit?

You don’t need a QR code specifically to prove it has been collected / to track it.

Scanning the QR code completes the transaction from an eBay perspective - so what happens after that is the buyers problem - hence why you wouldn't want to do this...

Pretty sure that was designed so the seller is protected if the buyer claims non delivery of an item when it's a collection. The courier obviously won't do this

There's not really any good solution to this I think .. unless he sends you a screenshot of the QR and you scan it?

Yeah, this is your burden, since you're the one arranging the collection.

Seller wanted collection only, you're appointing an agent to collect on your behalf, so the seller wants it treated as a regular collection: where the eBay qr code is scanned to confirm collection.

Help me understand, what QR code LOL.
DPD aren't offering this, is this an ebay service?

Yes lol..

I'm not complaining or objecting. I am trying to figure out where this QR is and how I can reasonably ask the DPD courier to present it.

I missed the bit about the OP arranging the courier - seems fair enough from the sellers perspective to want the QR code then.

Would be easier if they just arranged the courier.

You can't. You can scan the QR code by him sharing it which completes the transaction - there isn't really any other way this is going to work.

Prior to this system existing someone would offer to pay by PayPal then collect, after that claim that it wasn't and do a chargeback. This QR being scanned is proof that the transaction has been completed for the seller.

You can't do this with your own courier.

Auction setting prevents completion of transaction without and couriers won't do it since this isn't part of their service.

It just doesn't work by design, that's intentional to prevent the fraudulent transactions which would occur as experienced historically.
