Selling my GPU and someone is asked for the GPU's serial number?

If it says that on the box then it looks like thats the V1 card, which are also pretty good iirc, at one time THE fastest out of the box GTX680 :)
 
Why not give him the serial number if it helps him buy the card? It's not like the the card will magically disappear in a puff of smoke and appear in his hands once he has it. He is the person buying the card and just wants proper confirmation that the item he is buying is what is advertised.

Because he could take the S/N register it and then say he's not interested in the OP's card anymore. People will do this just to be a ****.

As Suarez7 has said. People do this all the time on ebay. Thats why sellers take pics of the S/N. I found out today that GPU's S/N are the biggest scam on the bay.
 
Surely he needs the part/product code to tell what card it is? I'd have thought the serial number would be rather generic among vendors.

Like someone else said about the only reason you would need the serial number is to register and/or RMA a product.
 
The serial number is unique to every single component. Hence the name "serial" number.

There is no reason for him to need serial number prior to purchasing and being in possession of the card. By all means mail him back and say that there appears to be some confusion as to the difference between part number and serial number on his behalf.

I'm not gonna bother. He only wanted the S/N anyways.

I very much doubt that gpu serial numbers are the biggest scam on ebay, lol.

Ask him straight why he wants it, then tell him, No:)

They buy broken products, then buy a working one from ebay or other 2nd hand sites and swap them with the working one and send the broken one back saying it came like that, this is why sellers now usually take a photo of the serial number.

Any item i sell i use a IR pen and draw all over it lol
